Watching the exit to PM Brian Mulroney's send-off, "We'll Meet Again" was playing. My Mother, a proud NFLDer came her with her Naval war-time husband in 1945 and she sang them all and a slew of Irish songs. at 74.......today is THE DAY, to break them out. You're RIGHT ON with that.

Somewhere in my memory, some of these melodies resurface and I listen today with great emotion knowing the difficult times that the world had to live through when they were first sung. Vera Lynn is a wonderful singer but she is also the best representative of the period and perhaps for decades thereafter.

Being a British GenXer Vera Lynn was for me always a fuzzy persona from a by-gone age, but someone I understood was respected and even cherished, although I didn't really appreciate personally. Well, that 'fuzziness' was brought into sharp focus when I happened to find myself in Antwerp during the 50th Year Anniversary celebrations of the liberation of that fine city, where our Vera appeared on stage to sing 'We'll Meet Again' - genuinely one of the most moving moments of my life which I feel grateful to have witnessed, and never forget.

Wonderful melodies from a time when the World was experiencing its greatest period of peril. Seems like her voice echoes down the decades providing solace to a World that is still a mess.

After many years I chanced upon the voice of Vera Lynn again, and I was even more enthralled! Even to the point of tears. I guess my soul was pinched. Talk about a moral booster in that war!
Very nice. Thanks. And back to you...very much the same...more if possible.

Absolutely true. However, it's quite interesting you "forget" (you aren't the only one) the almost 90 millions of deaths (civilian, military and prisoners), and plainly notice the 6 millions of specific people.

In a fitting tribute, Dame Vera's coffin was thrown 'over the white cliffs of Dover, landing near the sewage output pipe. It was united with a huge flotilla of ocean bound turds and together they floated out, over the horizon to a chorus of 'we'll meet again', as the sun set forever on the British Empire. HURRAH!

You are a disgrace to humanity, she fought for our peace and you are not even grateful for it. You are despicable you are a spoiled kid, you take everything for granted. Vera Lynn don't listen to this pickle he will find out later. May you rest in peace Vera Lynn, thanks you for everything!

What's it like to be so bitter and hateful, especially about things that you have never experienced yourself? Really, I'm genuinely curious - I imagine it's really, really horrible to be such. I feel really sorry for you and hope you get better soon, before it's too late and you completely screw your life up. BTW, if the British Empire was so detestable, why even to this day, are there 54 nations (making up 2.5 billion people) still voluntarily members of The Commonwealth of Nations, the head of which is Queen Elizabeth II. Well?
