Believe me, 8 weeks to fix this is very quick, and for 2 reasons: 1): You are in Germany, 2): You have a KZbin channel about Landrover with a lot of followers, and who likes negative publicity? Many owners in the UK have been reporting this dangerous failure for TWO YEARS whilst JLR were sitting on their hands in denial, and refusing to pay for repairs. Great that you caught their attention so fast, it can only help the many others with this issue. ❤

Good on Landrover for repairing your car , SHAME on Landrover for not issuing a world wide recall on a problem they know of ..A problem on a British Range Rover is no different from a German or any other country they exported these vehicles to ..Any one with one of these vehicle should be mightily grateful to Christen & Vera ..👍👍

@@arjandelaney You didn't pay attention in today's lecture. A crankshaft failure is low on human risk scale. A suspension failure at high speed would result in death. The law suits could deeply harm Land Rover's reputation and bank balance.

I'm an MOT tester in England and it doesn't matter what size tyres are fitted providing they match side to side, are fitted according to the tyre manufacturers instructions, are seated on the rim correctly and don't rub or foul the body or any components. I also find that Continental and Michelin are some of the worst tyres for cracking and perishing after a couple of years or so.

I find it amazing that Land Rover does not inform their worldwide distributors of serious issues such as this, if the UK head office knew about it then one would have assumed that they would have informed the rest of their worldwide network. That being said this is one of the very best KZbin channels, the content is always interesting, well presented and of the very highest quality, I only wish I had the skill and facilities to run and personally look after one of these amazing vehicles.

When my L405 went to the main dealer for a new rear differential under warranty it took them 3 months to do the work! The experience of having work done at main dealers is awful. To put into context how dangerous this crack is, in the UK, we have the British version of the TUF, called the MOT. If any suspension part is faulty or broken, even an anti roll bar, you cannot fix it by welding it, it must be replaced. One of your best videos, I even understood about half of the German conversation! Christian, when you lay your wheels down as you do, turn them around so the shiny side is up to prevent damage showing. Sorry, Saxon blood in me. I am worse than you sometimes.

Don't take YT comments seriously, responding to each dum comment would take hours of video when you get more subs & views. In our days we had to be doubly sure when we have to critique otherwise risk being called out to our face, but with the anonymity of internet and no repercussion of being called out or face embarassement if you are wrong, people just comment brainfarts without any knowledge on the subject matter. Your knowledge and experience shows from your videos, and the fact that no one is perfect and we all continously learn from our mistakes, like the trash bag diagnosis (best video), so just be yourself, be happy, we love your videos, really.

Hi Christian/Vera, your explanation on Risk Assessment was on point. I’m retired now but when I did work in industry I was one of the risk assessors on site. The 1 2 3 points you talked about are of course correct and to come to these conclusions you also need to have all the accident data that has been reported in all of the company accident books. Only then you can come to a true conclusion of likely hood. But and this is very important, once you have finished your risk assessment please take a copy of it before handing it over to your Health and Safety manager, because he will (if he feels like it) alter anything he might not like) These risk assessments have your signature on them and what I mean by this is as it nearly happened to me. One of my RA that had been edited was involved as evidence in a fatality. After (there were two of us that signed this RA) the original RA was produced and we did not need to attend court. I really hope any risk assessor reading this do take copies of your work because if you do not please do so, it’s very important to cover your ass. As you say Christian, do not trust anyone and I have lived my life with this notion. Great content as usual.
@TheGrimReaper1Ай бұрын
I did a risk assessment once and reported it to the county council. It was a loose concrete slab on the bottom step of a three step stair (from the local park) to a pavement/footway a few feet from a busy road. I nearly came a cropper over it and managed to gain my balance by some miracle and i was livid i can tell you. It took me about five or ten seconds to determine that it was a three three on a simple risk scale that i knew and was trained on at the time, but not as good as your example. For example high probability that some elderly person would stand on it and upon loosing their balance would fall heavily on to the pavement probably breaking their wrist or arm in the process and maybe even fall or stagger into oncoming traffic if they didn’t regain their balance quick enough. So i gave it the maximum of three on the scale (high possibility of injury) and another three of (high possibility of it happening ) . I went straight to the reception at the local council which fortunately was only about a five minute walk away and gave them the story. They coned and taped off the offending side of the stairs next morning with a sign . I know because i checked up on it so they were pretty good and full marks to them. A one/one was negligible risk of injury and negligible risk of it happening. Two /two was somewhere in between. So very easy to do for anything you come across, thats for a “reasonable person” of course, as defined by Lord Diplock in one of his cases, DPP v Camplin 1978 i believe. Just want to edit this post to say that a “reasonable Person” if you are interested has been described as “An ordinary person of either sex,not exceptionally excitable or pugnacious but possessed of such powers of self control as everyone is entitled to expect that his fellow citizens will exercise in society as it is today”.

I was once involved in oil filter inspections on Lycoming and Continental aircraft engines. Take a hacksaw blade and cut the paper circumferentially, top and bottom. You can then pull the paper free and lay it out flat on the bench, it makes inspection so much easier and more thorough. Be sure to recognise lumps of carbon as harmless - you can crush them with your fingers.

If you were our assessor, maybe many of those beurocratic meetings would end very soon with no space to useless discussions with accounts and non technical people... Anyway, I don't think here in Italy the MCTC Motorizzazione Civile - the government agency entitled of transportation safety - would accept a private initiating a safety claim process. And pretty sure that no producer would accept a full warranty covered intervention in a used car with 160.000 km. The least they could accept would be a significant customer participation. if not a full charge repair... Thank you again for your amazing videos.

Hello Christian, Hello Vera, Yes, risk assessment a fundamental component for an engineering business to consider. This can take a while. Having agreed the need to replace (and pay for) failed components plus labour, the next hurdle is whether a revised component design is required. Yes, it is a fatigue fracture to a safety critical component. I am looking forward to your next video instalment, and hope to see a revised knuckle design as part of the repair package. You both have a wry sense of humour - So nice from strait laced Germany.

I’m taking LR to small claims court so they can prove mine is different to a one manufactured and fitted to a model three months earlier! Visited one for the first time in many years the other day - was told I'd have to wait 2 months for a repair appointment and that the 60A suspension fuse I needed was not in stock but could be ordered on a 5 day delay. I got the fuse elsewhere same day and with no specialist nearby and no local garage willing to touch things like the air suspension it's not surprising I end up doing most jobs myself - you have no choice!! Hydraulic car lifts (at least in North America) have a "clicking" lock mechanism that actually supports the vehicle on the posts. You raise the car, then release the pressure and it locks to the nearest notch. Lowering the car requires you to raise it slightly, then disengage the lock (often via a separate cable), then lower. Safer than jack stands.

Hats off to you both for all the effort you put in to bringing this issue to the attention of the authorities. You two get results because you are persistent. Most people are not. Just one observation. You say that once the facts of the case are made known to the authorities, they have to act because "that is the law". Oh, you lovely Germans. Yes, you are right, in Germany. You have a rule-based, law-abiding culture. If Germans were in a house that was on fire and the only way out was through a window into the garden but there was a sign saying 'do not walk on the grass' you would all stay in the room until you died. I exaggerate, but the point is not all countries have the same regard for rules and laws. Corruption, old school tie associations, nepotism, etc. see to it that nothing gets done. The problem gets ignored, no one is answerable and the share holders and managers get their bonuses. Look up Ralph Nader.

We cannot point out enough that we are talking only about the facts here in Germany, and only about our case, I certainly hope everybody understood that and that they have to file their case on their own, which ever country they live in. And no, I would definitely walk on the grass. 😃The thing is, here in Germany you just cannot sue successfully like in the US, where the lawn owner will sue your ... if you walk over it from your burning building. 10:56 It is good JLR have responded to you , I have the same vehicle here in UK (2016) and have visible crack but JLR said my vin is not on their list and won’t issue a recall for my one . Now I have to pay out of my pocket to fix the car

With the shortage of trained and qualified technicians... eight weeks is not all that bad. If you have to talk to Land Rover Corporate... you will have to talk to them more than once. Good on you Christian for getting this sorted for all your countrymen.

Your explanation how the warranty process works was enlightening, I thought the laws of precedent would have been sufficient given the sheer numbers recalled in the UK, well done.
