The Verbos Amplitude & Tone Controller combines an input gain section with lovely saturation, a 2-pole vactrol-based self-oscillating low pass filter with diode limited resonance, and an Arp 2600-inspired VCA with simultaneous linear and exponential control voltage, all using discrete components. If you’re looking for that so-called “vintage sound” combining not-buzzy overdrive and a constricted, low-mid croak when driven hard, start here.
This first video starts with a montage of some of the sounds it can create, and then goes over its inputs, outputs, and controls. After that I spend the rest of the video demonstrating how you can play the Input Gain and Resonance against each other to create a wide range of sounds that range from very tame to living inside a pressure cooker:
0:00 some examples
(warning: some extreme bass starting at 0:22)
0:32 module overview
1:12 its tamer side
2:02 Input Gain versus Resonance
The remaining movies explore its percussion possibilities in particular ( • Verbos Amplitude & Ton... ), and both frequency and amplitude modulating the VCF and VCA respectively ( • Verbos Amplitude & Ton... ).
This is another addition to my ever-growing Eurorack Expansion course. Learning Modular Patrons get additional notes that go along with each video:
