the 1857 version of boccanegra was written particularly for a baritonal tenor with a low tessitura, so in pursuit of making a recording of the original 1857 version, why was a tenor with a very typical and uninteresting timbre hired? not a creative or wise decision for a company dedicated to restoring rare and forgotten works.
