Gisèle's beautiful, vindicated smile is a treasure. She's earned her rest. As for the defense lawyer saying those fifty rapists "weren't meant to be here," ridiculous. Those men walked into that bedroom fully conscious, of their own free will. They made their choice, and they deserve to be held accountable.

"Shifting judicial focus on actions of perpetrators"? Isn't that what Justice is supposed to be focused on? Evidence. You also mistranslated her statement again, omitting the clause in which she said it was just a victory for the moment, casting doubt on whether it is a change of heart - France remains a deeply patriarchal nation, which is why the convicted thought they could get away with it.
@victoriabecker6534 сағат бұрын
Exactly. Given the laughable defense tactics, men will still justify rape as OK
@maramcmanus96692 сағат бұрын
I would be furious and enraged. Those men should have gotten the maximum sentence. How much you want to bet they wont go looking for the 30 men they couldn't identify and will consider this case closed? Remember, there were approximately 80 men. Only 50 +/- were tried.

This is not about FEMINISM, stop that!!!!! This is about HUMANITY. Women and Men are equal in their rights. Life....Liberty And ....the pursuit of Happiness. Stop making this a tv drama. Madame Pelicot is a hero to SOCIETY. Peace to the World.
@bearswithglassesСағат бұрын
... feminism is *literally* about equity for men and women. That's literally the entire point. Just look up the word in the dictionary. The fact that this still goes on means that society isn't equitable and feminism, the idea that men and women should be treated with equity in society, is still very relevant. Trying to say that feminism isn't relevant is saying women should not be treated with equity, which is the opposite of what you seem to be trying to say.

One of the things you are missing in this report is interviews with legislators to see if there is a willingness to change Frances' laws about domestic abuse, sexual assault, rape, consent, etc, or is it just lip service that things will change for women? You need to put legislators on the record that they will enact stronger laws about those issues and longer sentences for the perpetrators. The patriarchal patterns are entrenched in French and Italian societies, probably a little more than in other places. You can see it in the fashion industry, right? I think the fashion shows started in either one of those countries and it exemplifies how women are objectified even by other women. And, it is all for cash, it is a business after all.

I was intrigued to see the crowd of men around Gisele as she left the court. She thanked the journalists, her lawyer, the judges and her sons for their support and for standing by her. Not all men are depraved. The description of her x has-been's fellow criminals makes a horrifying read. Some had been previously charged with DV, sexual assault and had alcohol and drug addiction issues. I hope sentences become harsher for all sexual crimes and are named, depravity against a man; a woman; a child/ren; a baby.
