Title Track from Forefathers 'Steadfast' Album.
Lyrics:
Steadfast as a weathered mighty stone
Weary of this furious raging storm
Defy, and resist the endless war
Withstand, and uphold the sacred law
Though I may faulter on my journey
And I will suffer pain with time
I know I'll keep my head up high
Bring forth your gods
Your sacred strife
With truth I crush your wretched life
Roots so deep this oak will now be swayed
Core unwavering, edges burn and frayed
Enduring as all else wilts and wanes
Earth-red blood is coursing through my veins
Steadfast!
Noble, Glorious
Ever victorious
Entwined everlong
Steadfast forever
Loyal is this friend who rides with me
Ever true companion reigns supreme
Smashing all deluded false belief
Laughing at their feeble self-deceit
No one can take this strength away
I will resist the fearsome tide
And I will keep my head held high
Bring forth your gods
Your sacred strife
With truth I crush your wretched life

It's strange that these guys haven't caught on like the other more popular "viking metal" bands. Their music is so crushingly epic, much better than most of the stuff out there right now. God I love this album.

And remember, you guys, the *family* is the foundation of the folk-- not the field of strife: 'Roots so deep this oak will not be swayed; Core unwavering, edges burned & frayed.' See? It's that *core * of things that stays steadfast, not the evanescent outer trappings....

What I love about viking metal (yeah I said it, viking metal!) is that it is about standing up for yourself, never backing down. Remaining steadfast.

@maarhoefe the anglo part comes from the fact that they were NOT just Saxons. The Saxons settled primarily in the south of England. The Angles (where Anglo comes from), another Germanic tribe, settled in the middle and north of the country, while the Jutes settled in Kent. All three of these tribes were Germanic and spoke Old English dialects. Therefore, most outsiders just called them Saxons.

Angles, Saxons, Jutes and the Nordic peoples are all Germanic, same people. Most Saxons came from Denmark before the Viking period even began. If they had stayed, they would have probably ended up Viking. So as before, the same people! And most north Englishmen can trace their bloodline to the Danelaw, when the Danish Vikings had conquered and ruled England for around 60 years. I think it's as high as 70% in some areas! I myself can trace this on my mothers side. Til Valhal my friends!

no, it means raider, its something you do - to go a viking (raiding). the AS called them Danes but many of them were not from denmark, the otherness and alien aspect that united them was the fact they were all pagan not that they were raiding. norsemen raided eachothers countries too y'know

I'm pretty sure it meant explorer; the actual word being Vikingr. I could be wrong though. But to an Anglo-Saxon battle-ready on a beach ready to repel an attack, a viking was very a much of a people; a foreign people from Scandinavia who threatened their very lives.

@austpom333 The Angles (not Angels) came from nowadays Northern Germany, the landscape named Angle (Scheswig-holstein). It's lying between the river Eider and the border to Denmark. In this area lived also the Jutes and the Frisians. The Saxon tribe of Holsten, who lived south from the river Eider to the river Elbe founded together with Angles, Jutes and Frisian their new home- land England. They called it England because the Angles were the strongest of the tribes.

@crusaderp Yeah they're all Germanic. The Angles and Saxons were West Germanic (Although if the Angles were Danish they were more likely North Germanic) and the Scandinavians were all North Germanic with the exception of the Finns who weren't Indo-European at all.

Well actually the helmet they are wearing is based off a real Anglo-Saxon helmet that was found. There isn't much difference between Anglo-Saxons and Vikings at first glance but they are two completely different cultures and lived in different countries. You just have to learn more about them and then the differences will show.

@Red23791 They both invaded Britain about the same time together. The diffused culturally. Hence Anglo-Saxon.
@Red23791
@Red23791 13 жыл бұрын
Yeah of course they did, hence the name Saxons; they came over from Germany so all of them pretty much have common ancestry, however the 400 year gap did change them and there was a slight difference between Anglo-Saxons and Vikings obviously, Vikings were explorers/raiders and Anglo-Saxons had to repel them. There's a common ancestry and similar traditions but there is still a barrier. Think about what the Angles, Saxons and Jutes created when they merged and settled.

Well, uh, okay.... but the point that I was kinda trying to make is that that stuff doesn't really *matter*....The details of ancient politics are more academic than.... Anything else.... But the old heathen culture of the Saxon can speak to us; Odin is ahistorical; that's my perspective.

C'mon guys, lighten up! Sure, sometimes Saxon kings saw Danish kings on the field of strife, but does that mean that these two northern lands share nothing of speech, or of the old ways? After all, even the Celts have old ways, it's just that the Saxons spell things after the far more awesome custom of the Anglecynn....

I mean, take the Welsh, for example. (And English & Welsh get on better than they two do with, uh, the other two.) The Welsh live in Britain; Britain is a land; the English folk live on this same land. The English share folk customs with the Danish, land with the Welsh. It's just that to spell 'land' in Welsh would require 72 letters, since Celts love words with too many letters. ^^
