Looked it up, found this video and listened to it first… there’s no looking further, I don’t want to hear anyone else’s. This is so masterfully done it’s chilling. Great cover! Though this song isn't about an actual woman, Coreys talkin about his demon/Angel. Definition of Vermillion is a bright pigment usually red. Probably the best term to describe it. Now before you call me crazy, listen to all of Slipknots songs from their first to most recent album, if you just give it a shot in assuming Corey is talking about the demon that consumes him then all of their lyrics will make a lot of sense.

Interesting theory, but I believe its actually about his ex wife Scarlet. Scarlet as you may know is also a shade of red hence the song title 'Vermilion'....its meant to be a subliminal message about her. There's a live performance of Vermilion part 1 where he says,"Do you ever feel like you've been cheated?" right before the song starts. Corey is dealing with the heartache of losing his wife and is tormented by the realization that the woman he fell in love with was actually an illusion and that she never really existed to begin with. Everything they had...their love...the very life they built together was only a product of wishful thinking. He molded this idea of the perfect romance around her. She was the light in the darkness for him and no matter how much it hurts or how badly he wants things to be the way they were he knows they can never be. In the end the woman he fell in love with "isn't real" and he can't make her real. Now that the 'veil has been lifted' he sees her for what she truly is and realizes that the 'angel' he fell for isnt as perfect as he thought. And as hes said in another song "Angles lie to keep control"....its easier to understand when you've been through toxic relationships like that.
