Hello, what's the name of that metal percussion kind of güiro, you are using? is it a venezuelan charrasca? and what rythm is the base of the piece? greetings!

Hello Eisbeck, The instrument is called a WIRI and the rhythm is a Curaçaoan rhythm called Danza, which as it's own particular groove or rhythmic patterns but also it's own harmonies which is based in Classical music. I am from Curaçao and that is a small island some 40 miles away from the North Coast of Venezuela, so much of the music and culture is very similar to Venezuela and vice versa. We even have very similar drums.

:) it's amazing,... the similarities and jet, the own appropiation and reinterpretation of the same references (dances, instruments, rhythms) into different cultures, languages and experiences. I'd love this piece, the fussion of folclore into this jazzy sound is quite something; sweat stuff. Thanks for the reply to my questions. Greetings from México!

Hey Eisbeck, We have all of this to thank to Mother Africa. If you go closer to Africa to Cabo Verde you will find Funana and there they play a scrape similar to what we have in the Curaçao and Venezuela, but MUCH larger! Thank you for the compliment. There's more on My album that is coming out soon. You will be able to purchase it soon through my website: www.vernonchatlein.com
