This was the obvious nationalism that contaminates boxing when racism doesn't. Most of what Vernon threw was blocked. Most of what quartey threw landed. Vernon had a point deduction and quartey made the fight by moving forward ( you get points for that). It's fights like these that gave mma an audience.

This fight here really hurt Quartey chances for another big mega fight when he lost & honestly Quartey won the fight an the only thing I seen Forrest do here land that big uppercut in round 2 but after that it was all Quartey with the sweep and Forrest punches lost a lot of steam while Quartey's punches still was doing damage and swelling up Forrest right side of his face and Quartey was a threat to Mosley & Trinidad that's why Trinidad's father never took Quartey on any offer to fight

Good fight, terrible judging. Quartey was the aggressor the entire bout and he landed the harder, cleaner punches. Forrest threw a high volume but the vast majority of his punches were deflected by Quartey's gloves and arms. The judges obviously didn't take that into account for whatever reasons, but Ike clearly deserved the decision.

Poor Ike , he deserved the decision on this one it would’ve cemented him finally as winning a bout against a top tier fighter finally….despite being the aggressor all the way, Quartey never landed a telling blow on Forrest, whilst Forrest landed a jolting uppercut, that badly hurt Ike in the 3rd….However, despite a beautiful display of boxing, Forrest backpedaled too much, and Ike landed enough jabs and chopping blows to the side of Vernon’s temple, to earn a narrow decision…It should’ve been 96-94 Quartey, close but still clear cut

Quartey’s punches were tighter and more accurate but he got out boxed. Vernon never let him get set. He punched, moved, jabbed, stepped over and punched. Ike was just following him around. Both great fighters but Ike got a boxing lesson.
