I really like the differences between the French and the Japanese versions. I mean the overall meaning is the same but there are differences in the choice made regarding stage directions. Here is fact that verona is beautiful is said only once at the beginning,. As such, the accent is put on presenting the families and the city as a character is really undermined, "La belle verone, [...] Biensur nos jardins sont jolis bien sur nos femmes sont belles [...] Verone, la belle verone" Is repeated numerous time in the french version. And one thing that I really liked is that the powerlessness of the duke (or king idk) is really underlined ! In the original french musical, they keep bowing to him, and he condems them heavily. Here he seems to be more of a Pontius Pilate-like figure. He tries to stop them, but when nothing works he just... Washes his hands up and leaves. Anyway ! Sorry I love the musical.
