I’m so relieved!! I watched these 2 videos yesterday and saw how thorough and therefore the best review of this product online. I then ordered it in Amazon and it’s set to arrive tomorrow - I can’t wait BUT… I stumbled upon an review you did last year of the Cloneralliance Pro without the screen and it threw me off, I nearly panicked thinking I should’ve bought the screen less dvr - I nearly canceled my purchase. So, I came back to re-view THIS video to be at peace again. I’ve got a friend who’s got TONS of vhs and dvds and I’ve been trying to get him to digitize. Anyway, I clear, I’m good. Thank you so much for this review!!

I liked your review... but I would like to see the (future) Part 3. Especially since it has a pretty hefty 'price point'. I am even more intrigued now after watching part 2. (ETA): I have a SVHS to HDMI adapter that has saved me several times. I bet you could ''Monkey-Rig' something with all the gadgets you have.

This device impressed me, but yes, it isn't quite as "thrifty" as most the items I review on my channel. Yes, an S-Video to HDMI adapter would allow feeding the output of SVHS to this device. I'm curious what would happen with the 16:9, 4:3 switch when hooked up in this manner. I also need to try this hooked up to the computer using OBS software. So Part 3 has been added to my "to do" list, but I have other irons in the fire right now.

also interacted in part three. I would like to know the best way to feed S-Video in to this. i will be ordering this soon. I returned the clearClick HD because it would not record out of my Sony VHS to DVD recorder with HDMI out. I am hoping this will. @@ThriftyAV

Buying one -- just because of your review. I think it would be nice to record a TV show quickly and easily, especially when I go outside to take dogs for walk & don't want to miss rest of show. [Subbing to your channel too, because this was a damned good video -- plus part 1 was awesome too. Very impressed. You do reviews like I would and how I can understand them.]

What happens if you run it through a HDMI splitter?? For example take the output of the Chromecast and feed it into a splitter where you split it into two outputs where you can run one to the TV and the second one to the Digitnow device... are you still able to record streaming services? Also, does it matter what HDMI splitter you get since it seems to not be affected by the HDCP?? I'm looking for a way to record TV shows from a Chromecast or Fire Cube to store on my NAS for personal viewing when my internet goes out or I'm near my data cap as my ISP has a data cap limit per month, so I'd like to have something to watch while the internet is down or if I'm near my data cap to avoid extra charges.

Yes, I like how you think about backup purposes. I would like to record some stuff, sneak it into work, and watch it as I'm supposed to be doing something on the night shift. Now, don't go telling the Boss. It's a boring job, and too little work for me to do. I get stuff done in 2 or 3 hours if I hurry. Then, I sit around for 5 hours waiting for morning shift.

which of all that you have tested for the standalone hdmi recorders do you think is best? I am looking at the highest possible video quality in 1080p. 4K is not necessary and I'm looking to record from older vhs, 8mm tape like hi8 into an upscaler and deinterlacer that outputs 1080 and 4k but I have no computer and I'd like the quality to be as good as it reasonably can. I don't need any crazy capture card quality but I don't want a bunch of compression artifacts either.

Kira, This upconverts SD to progressive scan 1080p 60. If your goal is to share video electronically, this does a good job. For preservation of SD source material like VHS, I like to keep the footage interlaced and maintain the 29.97fps native to NTSC. For this I use an old school DVD recorder set to HQ, then rip the DVD. This will also preserve the Closed Captioning, as mentioned by Rox Media. Consumer DVD recorders will disable recording if Macrovision copy protection is detected, but there are workarounds for this as well.

My biggest question is, when you flip the aspect ratio, does it also output it as that aspect ratio to HDMI?
@ThriftyAV2 жыл бұрын
The HDMI output included letterboxes on the left and right sides when selecting 4:3 using composite input. This was true for the built-in 7" monitor and the HDMI output. The file created was true 4:3 without letterboxing. I did not try 4:3 with an HDMI input, so that would be worth checking out.

@ThriftyAV2 жыл бұрын
I browsed the full pdf user manual, and nowhere in the documentation do they state the resolution of the 7" screen. I'm sorry you've had some problems with Cloner Alliance products and received poor support. This device is covered by a 90 day "no-hassle" return policy and a 2 year replacement policy. Consult the user manual for coverage on the item(s) you had fail. In the past, when a company did not respond to my electronic correspondence, I received a response using a strongly worded certified letter with return receipt. If this does not get their attention, you can file a complaint with the FTC or your state attorney general.
