The F1 regulations are set to change in 2026 with a new batch of rules coming into the sport, including more power from the electrical components and active aerodynamics. Max Verstappen has labelled what he's seen so far as "terrible" regarding the upcoming changes. Should we be worried for F1 in 2026 and beyond?

The fan base almost unanimously wants smaller, lighter cars with combustion engines. I can settle for battery power being involved but if it's the main power source, it's not F1 anymore. what became of the statement that the aim is to not make cars bigger and heavier? Put the weight limit down to 600kg, see what happens, cause what’s the budget cap for, and for safety the gotta pass crash tests. Active aero? Hell no! Right now, DRS is often needed to overtake, active aero will reduce its effectiveness. More electrical power, don’t care, but if the fuel is completely sustainable bring back bigger engines.

I'm okay with the energy system, so its a few times a lap they can push then harvest n stuff, be a bit more dynamic. But everything else is going to be super cringe. The weight increase, overall power DROP for teh cars is going to be a biiig difference in lap times. Essentially we are going even LOWER power then we already are compared to golden days, and yet again even heavier car. Dear people of the internet: this is just tactics, being in a currently dominant car you just want to make fans and people at F1 think this big change is bad to mantain the status quo. And it is clear since he just says "to me it looks terrible", "from data I've seen it looks bad", what data? I don't belive RBPT already developed a model of the engine they'll have 3 years from now. And this regulation does actually look promising: MGU-K generates power using kinetic energy, which means that when braking the generate power will be 3 times what they generate now, how could they "finish the battery on Monza's straights" like someone says? Impossible Active aero is just going to be one of the biggest (an maybe best) changes in modern times, being capable to adapt to any situation or condition is just too good to be true, how could it be bad Max?

But he is absolutely right more power means you can develop a car with more down force for mid to high speed corners and still be competitive in the straights Redbull has shown this season what just 30kph advantage in a straight can do

People are too busy with the we vs them mentally to realize the implications of these new regulation changes will make the entire grid significantly slower. I watch F1 for the engineering side of things as much as I do for the racing and I’m not trying to watch a sport that regresses in performance to a point of no return.
