In my seventh Versus Series matchup I will pitting two amazingly powerful fantasy warriors with Geralt from The Witcher Game and Talion from the Shadow of Mordor/War games. Who will win, The White Wolf or The Bright Lord?

Just finished witcher 3 and as much as I love it I just felt alot more powerful in shadow of mordor so I would go with Talion on this one,his abilities just are much cooler and you could take down a whole army of orcs with ease.

That may be true, but Geralt has lightning fast reflexes to deflect arrows other orcs in SOW could. But one element he'd have to rely on heavily, is the Yarden sign, used especially for making Wraiths mortal, and slowing his opponents. With that in his arsenal, it would be an epic fight

Talion's immortality is severable so long as he's either split apart from Celebrimbor or the ring is cut from his finger. Shadow of War proved that without either, Talion will bleed out and die from his wounds that haven't ever really healed since he and his family were sacrificed on the Black Gate

Imagine having the skills, equipment, and powers of both Talion and Geralt. Or in other words imagine if Celebrimbor gave his Spirit and ring to Geralt and even transfer the skills of Talion's martial style of fighting to Geralt diversifying his blade craft along with Celembrimbor's style of fighting. Geralt takes this. People saying things like, "...but the ring of power..." that is assuming that Geralt is in the LotR world. But even if it is, I don't think it would matter. Geralt in enhanced. He is a monster killer. He has killed wraiths before... so the whole "...but celebrimbror" is moot. Saying Geralt has never faced a wraith as powerful as Celebrimror is just an assumption. You didn't mention the potions and dedoctions that Geralt uses. If Geralt knew he was going after Talion, he would likely take whatever potions needed to help him vs wraiths. In terms of sword play, Geralt DESTROYS Talion.

If viewers expect Geralt at it's best (all preps & research done) against Talion, know that Talion also has the One Ring. Essentially OP. Even without the ring, Talion essentially is 2 vs 1 with Celebrimbor being a wraith that can use elven abilities (His speed is significantly faster than Yrden at its strongest & he can't take dmg being a wraith). Talion's also a decent fighter if you've played the game. Celebrimbor's arrow shots themselves are super sonic sniper rifle rounds with no physical ammunition drawbacks. Lore wise, Geralt has the edge; Lore wise, Talion has none as he exists only in games. Geralt is a fucking beast. Virtually no human can fight & survive him. Talion however was exploited before slaughtered in the very beginning of the game so we've never seen him lost in a proper fight.. Talion is an elite amongst elites. Celebrimbor is a war wraith on steriods, his steroids has steriods 🌚. Geralt is a junkie without OD capacity + mostly benefits frm heroin & stuffs (we've never seen him OD anyway). I'd opt for alchemist strat at Death March difficultly (Quen primarily, hell, throw in maxed Aerondight for a plus). Simple reasoning: Geralt's usually wraith strats doesn't work on Talion & Cel as they arent nearly as efficient. Talion's weaponry itself are all legendary crafted relics, by the man who crafted weapons for gods. Celebrimbor's wraith weapons are god&ghost weapons, Geralt cnt possibly break them. We'd play both on their in game combat FEATS. Lore wise (game inclusive or nt), Celebrimbor would top Geralt. Celebrimbor was mildly mentioned in lore he could fight very well but we really only see how OP he was in game while he was still alive. Him dead was actually even more impressive. Geralt lores usually contains exaggerations and inaccuracies more and more shown in games as even Geralt often correct/prove others certain things they get witchers wrong (feats, personalities, songs), he corrected them, more often to be less impressive where bards exaggerated it (Also consider where bards never seen most of the crazy shit he did). Talion dominates no matter what. Unless again, Celebrimbor decides to betray him mid fight.😒

I feel that Geralt would be able to counter any revenants or Gondorian wights Nazgul Talion would raise as they do have a serious vulnerability to fire, making Geralt's Igni sign a useful tool against them As for how to kill Nazgul Talion, I'd say that Geralt would have to use his own excellent intuition and detective skills to realize that his power is coming from the Ring, so all Geralt would need is an opportunity to cut the Ring from Talion's finger, like how Sauron cut the New Ring from Eltariel

@@phoenixj1299 impressive what you said was complete BS, I've read all the books played all the games and as much as I love Geralt of Rivia he is no match at all for Talion of Gondor, the absolute peak for Geralt is at best only 45% of Talion. Geralt can't take on an army equal to 1/4 that of Nilfgard, while Talion is able to kill an army every bit as big as Nilfgard by himself. In the Witcher 3 Geralt himself states that he's not capable of taking on well-trained soldiers he'd be killed, while Talion has repeatedly taken out enemy soldiers, urk-hai, and Olog-hai (which are basically intelligent trolls that are immune to sunlight).

Geralt doesn't necessarily have a counter to being frozen, as I think he got frozen twice by the Wild Hunt, so that may be something in Talion's favor But that still requires for Talion to physically *HIT* Geralt with his hammer, so he may be able to dodge it unless he gets disoriented somehow, probably with Talion's Wraith Flash/Elven Light ability

I believe the lightning fast reflexes was a book statement which book Geralt was not used in this matchup. Even then, I'd take that with a grain of salt as Geralt has been shown to be far slower than lightning by being far slower than actual lightning especially in the game. For the yrden argument, Geralt wouldn't have time to cast it and if he did, the wraiths in Witcher universe are different. They're not necessarily "immortal" much rather incorporeal. Yrden merely gives Geralt the ability to touch intangible things. Sure you can argue that against Celebrimbor but I don't see him actually being caught in that as I don't see Celebrimbor interfering much in this fight. The slowing down time argument is countered by Talion slowing down time as well. He was able to make 2 seconds turn into 18 seconds so simple math dictates talion can increase his speed by 9 times. I'm not sure how slow yrden makes someone though. I believe it slows down time by 175% so nowhere near as good as Talion's but im not sure on the source of that.

The Yrden sign is definitely one of the reasons I think Geralt would win. Assuming Talion doesn't have the New Ring, Geralt could use Yrden to force Celebrimbor into a corporeal form which could essentially sever him from Talion and cause the Ranger to bleed out. If the New Ring itself is a factor, then Geralt would have to use his intuition and sharp wits mid fight to see that the Ring is giving Talion power, so he'd need to stun him (possibly with Aard) before going in for a swift and precise strike to cut the New Ring from Talion's hand, leaving him without it's power and either having to rely on Celebrimbor for the remainder of the fight, or if it's Nazgul Talion, he'll be just straight up dead on the spot.

am I the only one who remembers the fact that in the first game talion could stop time and spam stealth (shadow of acharn) and he could acquire infinite explosive arrows (flame of azkar) though I don't know how the executions would work but if there were no game mechanics I assume talions sword strikes would be stronger (storm of urfael) and there's also the fact that talion can summon creatures (caragors graugs drakes). another thing to consider is that celebrimbor, with the one ring could definitely win given the fact that he can stop time, spam stealth, spam executions, and has infinite explosive arrows just something to consider.

Some extra points about Talion you didn't mention, he can summon a bunch of different creatures including drakes, he also has access to fire elemental damage as well as poisons which Geralt does too so not really a point in his favor I guess. also it would be in character for talion to just summon a dragon and use his army if he wanted lmao.

My take on the fight and this video is: 1. Taking only games Geralt into account isn't fair but at the same time it makes barely any difference since his abilities are portrayed pretty well. That being said, you omitted a few of Geralt's strengths. 2. Talion wins this fight if they have no time to prepare. Simple as that. If they meet on the field randomly and have to kill each other, Talion just overpowers Geralt with the amount of attacks and tricks he instantly has at his disposal. Talion's advantage in this matchup is that he is always in his prime fighting capability. 3. If Geralt had time to prepare (like in the scenario you described at the end), I am almost certain Geralt would win. And the reason is something you completely neglected in this video: witcher elixirs. While witchers themselves are faster and stronger than humans because of their mutations (and Geralt got more mutagens in him than an average witcher, which caused his hair to turn white and made him even faster and stronger), what makes witchers so powerful is their ability to intake elixirs that would kill a normal human. Elixirs that make them unreasonably fast, especially when it comes to reaction time. You can even see it in the game, an elixir by the name of Blizzard which slows time whenever an attack approaches Geralt. It is virtually impossible to get hit after drinking this potion. Unless you're fighting a higher vampire...(strongest monsters in the Witcher universe). Throughout the entire saga there was not a single human who could come even close to being able to beat Geralt in a sword fight. And while under effects of the elixirs, he ended each fight against a human in ONE slice. He only lost to Vilgefortz who was the strongest mage in history and Geralt didn't drink his elixirs before the fight (Geralt killed him afterwards but because he tricked him with an illusion). 4. Saying their swordsmanship skills are close to being on par is completely untrue. Geralt literally had 2x more time to train and was already superhuman when he was being trained so his training was even more rigorous than humans can handle. Talion can't come even close, no matter how skilled of a human fighter he is. It's Celebrimbors powers that make this fight even close. 5. Geralt can instantly freeze enemies as well. You can unlock a skill that makes your Aard freeze all enemies it hits. 6. Talion would never be able to sneak up to Geralt. Geralt's witcher senses can hear a human breathing tens of meters away, let alone sneaking up to him. Tl;dr - in a random fight, Talion wins because he is constantly in prime fighting capability. If Geralt has time to prepare, Geralt wins because after drinking Blizzard, Talion wouldn't be able to even land a hit. I know it seems like I'm fanboying Geralt, but I'm a fan of both franchises. I just think you didn't give Geralt nearly enough credit

Yes, in LOTR, Silcer does nothing to wraiths. But Witcher's silver is magical. So it may harm LOTR wraiths. Geralt can also cast Yrden, or use his bombs with either Moon Dust or Dinetirium, to halt Talion's abilities. This gives Geralt a better edge. However, even with that, I agree woth the decision. Talion beats Geralt. But I doubt Talion would kill him. He'd try to fight u til a stand still or incapacitate him, to talk to Geralt. Whwn they begin talking, Celebrimbor begins to tell Talion that they shouldn't trust Geralt, and Geralt demonstrates that he can also see Celebrimbor, much to their surprise. Geralt is capable to accept not to do his contract after he hears about Talion and Celebrimbor's intentions of using the orcs against Sauron. Geralt then sympathizes with them, since Geralt had Eredin as his arch-rival as well. Talion may even ask Geralt to help him, but Geralt doesn't work for free, and he would also dislike Uruks very much. But they both may share a drink lol Geralt would commend Talion on beating him.

Nice. I don’t agree with the outcome though because your main reason for the victor was gear but u did not mention that Geralt has different gear for different battles. I did not hear you mention the runes he uses also which in itself would be more then a match for a wraith

The outcome was correct in my opinion. Geralt could only use standard gear. Under standard battle assumptions, there is no prep time. Geralt would not have prepared with his niche potions. And yes in the Witcher 3, Geralt just carried a myriad of potions with him as he restored them with strong alcohol but that was more for game play purposes rather than actual lore. Same reason why Geralt shouldn't technically have his silver sword with him in this fight due to the actual series having him carry it on roach. But for gameplay, they didn't want the player having to run back and forth to roach. If Gerald carried every bomb and elixir and oil with him, he'd quite literally be carrying a wagon full of them. Even then, his potions and elixirs are very niche to the point where I would see him having to drink a lot of the more general use potions such as the thunderbolt elixir to increase damage output would be rendered useless by his limit of toxicity. Yes you can argue he also carries white honey with him to neg the effects of toxicity but it also negs the effects as well. Plus I don't see him spamming elixirs as that's out of character and I'm not sure if he can stack the same elixir. Same for the runes. he generally does not have runes on his equipment. You cannot count those. If you wanna argue the runewords, first you have to realize that it was part of the hearts of stone dlc so I'm not sure if its necessarily canon and secondly, you have to consider he probably doesn't even have any canonically as I'm 200 hours into the Witcher 3 and I'm still making Flores to upgrade his smith and buy his runewords. Also, considering the effects of the runewords, I wouldn't say they're to such a great degree to the point of where they would make a difference in this battle. But like I said, I haven't fully upgraded the runeword place yet so maybe they have some busted OP ability when its fully upgraded. If that's the case then you still have to realize that they're not really standard equipment and Gerald probably doesn't have any due to their high price. So there's many contentions with that argument. TLDR: they're not standard equipment and thus cannot be considered for this fight and even if they were, their effects are not to the magnitude of shifting the victor of this battle in my opinion.

I don't think rune matters for many reasons: 1. Video creators generally uses feats as it highlights more of their capabilities. Rune is a minor plus compared to outstanding abilities & feats. 2. Geralt has never encountered an undead + wraith who can rival the literal archangel. If Talion is without wraith abilities he'd lose 9/10..but Talion would actually drop dead because.. Our wraith friend keeps him alive. So it's a fight instead of who dies in the end. Talion cannot die as far as we're concerned, he's also immuned to Axii so.. No speech checks to surrender for Talion.

Okay did not mention any of Geralt’s potions that can enhance his speed, strength, senses, and reflexes. Didn’t mention how Geralt dodged lightning in the Witcher books, I think Geralt’s is just too fast for him when it comes to lore for the Witcher, and I feel like the Witcher’s sword skills are a bit better than Talons based on how almost ever sword encounter he is able to defeat multiple enemies in seconds like you mentioned where I’m pretty sure Geralt could defend both of them at the same time. I feel like if Geralt takes his potion to increase his speed and strength based on how fast it says it makes him in the books on top of his speed and ability he has before that I don’t think Talion could match his swordsmanship after a he took a potion, before I think he’s good enough to keep up with pace, but after I don’t see how he could keep up. I think physically attributes should’ve been given to Geralt. I think more feats from the book should’ve been mentioned. I think Eskel could also beat Talion sense he’s on par with Geralt in he’s Swordsmanship and is stated to be even more powerful with magic. I think Talion might be able take Lambert a newer Witcher than Eskel and Geralt. But I also just think Geralt’s experience is just a bit better I feel like his knowledge through his studies he’d be able to peace together a pretty good plan to take him out pretty quickly.

@Ricardo Roche I still think the Witcher would win with his basic resistance to multiple things with his mutations being resistant to magic to a degree where I don’t think the shame ability will help him too much and probably have little affect, and being shown to easily being able to deflect and get out of the way of range attacks with also being able to create magical barriers I don’t think the range will be a disadvantage for him because that seems to be the place Geralt has shown some really good defense ability with reflexes and strategy. The Witcher also I believe would be superior still with swords, especially if he took a potion which in the book he was able to dodge stuff like magical lightning I think his speed in attacks would be overwhelming for Talon in an up close encounter. I think Geralt would just win majority of times if they fought but that’s also just based on my thoughts of the world’s, can’t really tell how big of a deal the character would be in comparison in their world to another where Sorceries powers and warriors skills might not be as comparable in each world because one might have more grounded aspects than the other where it’s always hard to say without like a narrative explanation in a cross over to show the difference. Just in my opinion I think Geralt has proven himself a lot when it comes to fighting opponents like Talion with his equipment to enhance himself even further with his training dedicated to fighting things with similar abilities at times I think his knowledge and ability itself just provides him really great chances to win in fights like this where he mostly seems to struggle with extremely high level mages where his resistance and medallion can barely save him and certain monsters can occasionally get him off guard. But with powers like Talion somewhat magical abilities I don’t see as beyond the point he can handle where it seems better than the mages he typically has to deal with and can deal with, and his potions and enhancements I think give him an edge physically while also believing that he’s more skilled with his weapons than Talion where I think either Geralt or Eskel could beat him majority of the time.

@Ricardo Roche I get slow time ability is something but with Geralt potion of his enhanced reaction speed And his physical speed will still keep him on par en slowed time with also having signs which are made to be faster way of casting magic would keep him in the fight even with slowed time. With how extremely fast it’s stated in the books with the potion he’d probably just be around normal person speed in slowed time and still having his ability can make a magical trap to even slow down talion where I think that ability alone can semi negate that ability even though not completely with area of affect limitations but still has other tools and abilities to keep him in it I’d think with even slowed time even though I will agree that is a really good ability for Talion that could open up chances for him to win as well and help him out of bad situations that keeps the fight pretty close. Still think Geralt has plenty of counters like I’ve mentioned where it keeps him in the fight even with slowed time where I don’t think that’s a complete solution for fighting Geralt either.

Maybe, but maybe not. Sure, Nazgul Talion can raise the dead, but his Revenants and Gondorian Wights are extremely vulnerable to fire, and since Geralt has his Igni sign, the zombies Talion makes could most likely be little more than a distraction, with the potential exception of the Wights being unaffected by Talion's Ring Wraith ultimate ability, essentially making all of them much faster and Talion himself becoming even stronger.

Awesome match, though there is one thing I think you forgot about Geralt. Part of his experience includes fighting against opponents that are very similar to Talion. Those opponents being the Witchers he has been trained with, the wraiths of his world, Ciri and the Wild Hunt. None of them are as powerful as Talion, but they all have at least one thing in common with him. This can give basic knowledge about Talion that he would be able to use against him, which in my opinion, should allow him to win far more likely, since he should be able to read Talion's moves better than Talion could read Geralt's. There is also Geralt's potions, who can give Geralt some physical boosts, though only the healing potions could help him in this fight. Still, this was a very good match!

Talion at least scales to planetary and thats a huge lowball. He wins no diff, Talion was able to win against all the other ring spirits alone and was also able to win against Sauron and since they scale over Planetary and Sauron even to Outerversal, Talion would be at Galaxy lvl, because it was a weaker Sauron. Talion was shown to overpower Graugs and control any living being also he can teleport and dodge teleportation attacks. He can move like the other being are standing still , ( like Flash ). He could resist Sauron and even Gandalf wouldnt have been able to do so. Talion also bodied Balrogs which are at least Planetary. Talion has resistence to all the elements and even to poison. Also one thing, although people with strong enough wills can break the control, Talion can just torture them and with enough time they become obedient forever. Talion wins this fight no diff.

Depends, geralt is considered and canonically the most powerful Witcher in Witcher lore cause of who his parents were. Also unlike talion he has more experience fighting monsters yes talion is essentially immortal by SoM and SoW but latter is just a few months later. Also talion only been fighting Sauron since a teen while geralt been doing his thing for almost 100 years. Geralt also has killed a lot of humans during the Blaviken incident by himself no magic nothing, also being that celembribor is a wraith he would be weak against silver

The books are the highest form of canon, while the tie-in comics were designed with the games' continuity in mind. Is there a reason for all this selective choice of sources? No mention of Geralt's own throwing knives. No mention of dimeritium bombs, which can temporarily disable magic. No mention of Aard being able to freeze enemies solid. No mention of Heliotrope. No mention of Yrden having other applications, such as preventing teleportation and dispelling invisibility. Geralt has better hype and better feats as a swordsman. And if you really want to use lightsaber combat forms as a reference, at least do it correctly. Both Geralt and Talion regularly incorporate physical strikes and the use of magic in their fighting styles, which suggest Ataru and/or Niman. Talion especially, with his frequent use of acrobatics, is a classical example of Ataru. At least you said that this fight could go either way. So credits where credit's due.
