Both turbines are a bad choice because take just a little wind, and most of the wind pass through blades. My "dmmd" wind turbine takes much more of wind energy. I designed two such turbines, one horizontal and one vertical. There are three kinds of turbines: "Wind direction change" (as the horizontal turbine), "Turbine different shape" (as the vertical turbine in this video) and "Wind direct hit" (My idea and is not yet known)

Pracuji na vývoji vertikální turbíny s nízkou rozběhovou rychlostí a s obvodovou rychlostí asi 3x vyšší než rychlost větru. Doufám, že účinnost mé konstrukce překoná i Betzův limit.

This video is awfully biased towards horizontal turbines and has taken the absolute minimum efficiency statistics compared to the maximum of the horizontal turbines.

Why is there even a debate? Vawts turn at lower wind speeds. Are compact, and simply they are fun to watch. And are more efficient. Here's the better mouse trap.
@bialy100k3 ай бұрын
You says: "/VAWT/ are more efficient". Wrong. Even in this video is mentioned they are LESS efficient. And in practical tests done by mane people is a exactly same. Vertical produced 1/3 to 2/3 energy when compare them to same size traditional HAVT.
@HontounoShiramizuАй бұрын
@@bialy100k Not sure why people would ever think vwts are more efficient since even a little bit of understanding of aerodynamics will tell you a part of the design will always work against the rotation (this video at 3:45 expains it better). Vwts don't really turn at lower wind speeds either. Most hwts can turn at lower speeds but their torque is set higher to optimize power production and protect against extreme winds. Vwts would simply not turn at those settings. The only real advantages they have is easier maintenance and better reception among general populace, but those are hardly good reasons to justify their use for power generation. That said, wind is one of the least reliable sources of energy period and with how much construction materials it takes to build one compared to power output it's not nearly as green as most people believe.

It's really too bad that engineers have not been able to come up with affordable wind turbines for home use that can really exploit the wind to the fullest. Many of us who live in coastal areas with constant winds see the potential, but also understand that NOTHING currently on the market is really viable. The devices either cost so much that they payoff wouldn't come for 50 years, or they generate just enough electricity to power a table lamp. Solar and biogas are clearly the only viable options.

You could theoretically make a turbine using an alternator from a scrap car and some paint pallets
@paul1979uk20005 ай бұрын
True, especially as solar and wind would complement each other really well and give a more consistent power generating, which could also reduce the amount of batteries needed. Problem is, when it comes to wind power on the small scale, there's so many scams and disinformation on them that it's not easy to figure out what works or not, but the impression is that they don't generate meaningful energy in urban areas. I also feel vertical wind turbines would be far more appealing for homeowners and if they can crack it where they generate a decent amount of energy in urban areas, a mix of solar and wind would be a game changer for homeowners. On the plus side, there are a lot of companies experimenting with different vertical wind turbine designs, but until we see any on the market with solid numbers that they work in urban areas, then I feel more solar is the best route to go with how cheap it's getting, at least for homeowners.

Apparently you do not recognise the core problem! Close to ground there is not enough wind! Therefore ALL types of wind turbines are extremely inefficient. Electricity yield is proportional to third power of wind speed: +100% wind generates +800% more electricity! But close to ground: 0 constant wind! Efficient wind turbines are 150m and more high, where wind is much stronger and constant.
@xnell248 ай бұрын
Why worry about efficiency, wind is free! Factor in less noise, less space occupied, easier maintenance, less foundational strength requirement. IMHO vertical wind turbine is the winner.

On my channel there are prototypes of the Fletes wind turbine, which according to calculations exceeds the Betz limit, because if it can reduce the speed of the wind to 20% then it would be extracting 80% of its kinetic energy.

*Reality: Wind turbine are never a "better choice for homes"! With solar panels you generate at least 10 times more electricity with the same investment in time & money!* Reliable and almost maintenance-free for at least 25 years. Electricity yield is proportional to third power of wind speed: +100% wind generates +800% more electricity! But close to ground: 0 constant wind! Therefore all practical tests of ground-based small wind turbines show: 1) They hardly produce any electricity! 2) They do not last long!
