Wow, I've been teaching sewing for a long time so when I watch other KZbinrs, it's mainly for entertainment value, but YOU actually taught me a LOT! The ribbon demonstration made it very clear. Thank you!

I’m 70 years old and didn’t know this, though I have been sewing since in high school. No one ever mentioned it, and I always wondered why I had tension problems with my machine. Thank you soooo much!

You also demonstrated which direction the plastic cap goes on the end of the horizontal spool! Most machine manuals just tell the user to put it on, but they don't mention how. Excellent video.

Hi - So glad to have found your channel! Your instructional style is tremendous - rather than merely demonstrating techniques, you address the WHY and the HOW. It makes your learning so much more valuable to learners. Thank you for your commitment to our craft; I look forward to watching many more videos.

Never thought of putting those big cones in a jar for use on my sewing machine. Thanks for that idea. And now I know why some spools of thread look different.

Thank you for splaying this and sharing this information. It’s so basic but it’s something that a lot of sewists don’t know it or why, we uses the spools that we do.

I honestly didn't know that I could put a spool on vertically and why I would do so. I also just found out that with this video that I have been putting on my end cap backwards this whole time!! thank god I'm the only one who knows how to sew in my circle so no one knows how I'm embarrassing myself lol

“The only way out of the jar is up” Love the tip!!!! Thank you for the video, never considered what the significance of how the thread on a spool was wound. I bought a new machine that wouldn’t fit my previously bought large threads that sat up top on my old machine. Now I can use them placed in a large jar without having to invest in new threads :)

Thank you. I have only used horizontal and got a machine with horizontal and parallel and there was no info in the manual or online and support at the company kept glitching. I had no idea which one to use. It's a simple thing but I just didn't know because I hadn't been exposed to it.

Nice, I just purchased guterman thread for my juki ddl 8700. My other parallel wound spools used to always get stuck in that little notch and break the thread. Now with my gutter man thread that doesn't happen anymore

For the footage at 1:58, you seem to have rewound the green thread that you pulled from the spool at around 1:30. That is so cute, and cool. I hope you have a good day.

Thank you very much for your explanation. I use a Bernina machine which is over 56 years old. It doesn’t have a horizontal spool but all the cottons today are wound in that diamond pattern. How can I overcome this? I use guterman thread. I’m 74 and grateful that I can learn something new especially from young people.

I never knew this and have always put both types on the horizontal pin. Honestly, I didn't even know that my machine could be set up for a vertical pin until I just looked and saw that the hole was covered with a small sticker. I wonder if I have a vertical pin around here somewhere . . . .

Question: can you wind thread on a bobbin and then use this bobbin for your upper thread??
@ariel37252 жыл бұрын
Huh. Today, I learned something new. Thanks for sharing! I'm assuming there will be no impact if you put the crisscross thread on the vertical spool? Coz I know some sewing machines don't have that horizontal spool.
@paulinemcleggan7585 Жыл бұрын
Ive heard you can use the horizontal spool to wind the bobbin without unthreading the machine. How is this done?😊
@spacecase02 жыл бұрын
I thought there were two places to hold thread because you can set the sewing machine up with two separate threads and a dual needle, or at least that's what the instructions say on every machine I've had
@notconvincedgranny65732 жыл бұрын
Yeah, my old CE-100 has two spool pins, but the one on the back is for thread cones; the horizontal is for everything else. So far, so good.
