Vertically True in a Crooked World | The Book of Amos | Gary Hamrick

In order to understand what is right and what is wrong, we must have an objective moral standard to define those things. Who or what is the objective moral standard in the world? It’s not government, or the culture, or any of us. It is God! In the book of Amos, God is described as “the Plumb Line” against whom all things are to be measured and aligned. Only when we align ourselves with the Lord and His Word are we “vertically true”, otherwise all things are crooked. Pastor Gary challenges us today from the book of Amos about making sure that we have aligned ourselves with the true standard of God so that we can influence our crooked generation for Christ.

This was a great sermon. Learned new things within it. Sad he skipped over Chapter 6, but I know that would have derailed his whole main message. I just think it's a chapter that still convicts hearts today. Complacency and slothfulness - leaning into our luxuries and comforts rather than aligning ourselves with God and who Jesus says we are to be - and that's a willingness to give up anything and everything at any moment.

Pastor Gary would probably tell you he is not the man just the messenger God is using to reach a new generation of fallen people. From my understanding, Amos was the last Prophet to live entirely separate from the world and its ways. Lived fully under the Grace of God while in his earthly existence. Until Christ came, no one else achieved this fete.Christ pulled the Apostles out of the world. And will pull the Children out of the world.
