Love your work.I have couch also.My rotary (Rover) will take it down to dirt on it's own.I scalp mine down to dirt every spring,aerate and topdress with compost(I make my own mix). Keep up the great work.

Thats not verticutting, your just scalping the hell out of your turf. When anyone does this properly the turf is unaffected but you cut lines into the soilit removes thatch and a little turf nothing drastic, when we verticut greens, tees or fairways we always do two passes, the lines meet perfectly for 90 degree angle, it creates small diamonds in the soil. I have 20 years on course experience another 4 getting my turf management degree and ive never seen verticutting like this
