Just a little trick: hold the 2 side's of the tube up and fill up the tube with gas until its about 5 or 10 inches from the tops. Hold your thumb on 1 end and put the other end in your fuel tank so its in the fuel. Get the other side of the tube down to what your draining the fuel in and as soon as you release your thumb the fuel starts draining.

This method works, is easy, and efficient. It's also 1000x faster than removing your whole tank. I did this today, w one difference. Instead of using my mouth, I have a basic suction tool a mechanic lent me. You push, it blows. You pull, it sucks. Put it on end of clear tubing (clear is important so you can see the gas beginning to flow), and sucked it into the tank. Took 5-7 cycles to get it near empty, which is fine bc I don't need it 100% empty as the new gas will fill the majority.

If you do to want to suck the hose (I wouldn't recommend it!) you can put another small hose into tank and create a seal round it with your hand and blow, the fuel will come out the long hose into your container 👍🏻

If you have a "prime" option on the petcock, a big syringe (have three that cost pennies, one for brake bleeding, one for fork oil measuring, one for fuel) attaching a long pipe to the petcock and the syringe to the other end means you can draw the air out of the pipe until you get fuel coming through, then just let it pour into your fuel can.

Or you could push the hose in more allowing it to fill. Cap the end with your thumb like most people learn with a soda straw as a kid. Pull it out and release into container .

Suck until gas is there, pinch hose by mouth with pliers, lower end to tank, remove pliers. Should work. No hurry to get hose in can without spilling.

You can go to an auto parts store and buy octane and add it to your fuel to raise it. For example this one linked. Or you can empty some fuel out and top it off with premium. And don't ride it rough till you get a new full tank.

what about the reserve tank? isn't there still some gasoline that can't be siphoned since it's the tiny amount of gas needed to ignite the starter? will that cause damage if it's maybe bad from about 10 years of sitting?

@@darrenmartinez5164 yes, a friend who know his stuff also helped me with pointers. The bike is fine after doing what the video is showing here. Maybe having a can of fresh gas to at least get you far enough is a good idea because it did die on me on the way to the gas station. Hope that helps.

Another technique works for both using a rented vacuum pump and removing one end of the fuel line at the petcock, use another tube emptied into a gas can. Look it up on KZbin.

Just buy a cheap siphon pump, a parts store will have them. Otherwise you’ll probably suck up gas, obviously not a good idea.
