VERY EXPENSIVE DAMP REPAIR

As you will see this property had an extensive rising damp issue, that was very very expensive to fix. The walls and floors were saturated because of the building defects. These building defects will only be found by a surveyor who is prepared to spend time investigating your property.
When a damp issue occurs you should seek professional advice, to ensure the correct diagnosis of the damp initially, so then the correct repair is identified to actually fix the root cause.
I often find lashed up damp repairs, from previous cheap quotes, with poor specifications.
These solutions then normally mask a problem, which then pops it's ugly head up somewhere else.
Expect to pay for a thorough survey, and expect to pay for a professional repair.
At the end of this video is link to another video that tells you the questions you need to ask a damp surveyor, prior to paying for a survey. This info is well documented in the British Standards, and should be followed by an averagely competent surveyor. Unfortunately some surveyors don't follow this guidance, despite charging you for a damp survey.
Any questions drop them in the comments below.

Brilliant presentation on how to be a damp detective and do the job right. If only there were more out there like you mate! Specialist damp work is not magic-it takes time and effort to get to the bottom of it. Bravo 👏

I'd say this is your best video yet. Proper job. My wife sat here thinking I'm a right dweeb watching this. Saying 20 grand for all that work right up to the paint?

Thanks for the kind compliments Chris. From your own experience with your property, you know how worthless these non invasive surveys are. Unfortunately this a common trend, even when paying for some independent damp survey reports…again as you know 👍

@@completepreservation Hi Ross, quick update for you, had to do just about all of this after identifying the root cause which was all the classics, every drain failed, dpc massively bridged, cavities full up ,high water table and crappy clay earth etc…lots of work and cost!…just got the liquid dpc to do and that should be it..a pain in the arse but actually quite fascinating….Again thanks for your help and videos..without them I’d not have a clue but now feel much more confident when discussing damp issues😂cheers Mate I’ll keep on watching of course, take care 👍

Glad it's all getting done correctly now bud....can be more expensive doing it correctly, but certainly cheaper in the long run...it's never worth buying a bodged up house unless you got the wonga to fix it ;)

Wow that was indeed a lot of work but at least you tracked down the cause of the problem rather than merely attempted to deal with the symptoms as so many "specialist" tend to do - although in this case it appears that things were so bad they could not be covered up. Diagnosis before remedy - an excellent approach.

Thanks Alan, as you can see with this one some basic damp investigations revealed some expensive horrors. I’ve got some horrendous ones I need to edit, where the properties have been bodged up 👍

Thanks bud, I use what I call a modified waterproof screed. You can use a liquid Waterproofer to the floor and wall junction, and for peace of mind waterproof sand and cement infill 👍

I noticed in my attic roof space the mortar in the brickwork is missing and powdery and some of the brickwork is loose above is the chimney stack to my terraced house. Any recommendations you can advise me on like in employing a roofer or a surveyor.

Curious to know your thoughts on the videos i've put up on here, i've taken some readings on our new build built in 2019 and the meter is going crazy pretty much everywhere. We have skirting that has twisted away to front of property, our snagger picked up on potential for heave there. There is an odd mix of DPM and Radeon barrier here, our dpm is black and radeon is orange but we're seeing bits of blue poking out in places where the dpm layer is. We have over 400 snags here, dozens of which breach building regulations and Redrow are ignoring them. NHBC was here last month and they instructed Redrow to carry out works which Redrow have ignored and attempted to pay us off to shut us up as we went to the media (we got them in the telegraph / mirror / daily mail / the sun / devon live etc). NHBC were also ignored prior to this by Redrow. What we have also found is that NHBC won't measure things and will eye ball whether or not something is a problem even though it's been measured by our snagger Paul Frost (Snagaroo). Major reforms are needed with new builds it's crazy. Curious on your thoughts.

@@completepreservation if you click on my profile name here and click videos you'll see the ones I've uploaded here. Yeah new builds severely lack protection. This new ombudsman is pointless as it only covers from exchanges made once they've signed up and developers have until the end of the year to do that. This gives developers like Redrow a clean slate on all these severely issue houses.
