My group of four were the last people admitted to this particular taping, not knowing (no one in line knew) that Robin was the special guest. Everyone went absolutely wild when they announced it. Half of the material generated during that taping ended up being edited out - pure gold. One skit that didn't make it to air was a scene where Robin and Ryan were Siegfried and Roy waking up to realize they were late to their show. Robin and Ryan started the scene lying down on the floor spooning. Then Robin/Siegfried "wakes" up distressed and states, "I had the worst nightmare! I dreamt I was surrounded by... pus***!" (You can figure why that didn't make it to air.)

This was taped the same day I literally ran into Robin Williams on a Delta flight out of LA. We had a layover in Houston and as I was getting off the plane, I was looking down so not to fall, Robin was late getting out of 1st class, I ran right into him. He was so nice. He held my arm and led me off the plane. What a sweetheart. I miss him so.
@taniele848 жыл бұрын
Oh what I wouldn't give to have a memory like that of Robin. And I'm not the least bit surprised that he was such a kind hearted gentleman and led you off the plane like that. He's one of those people that only comes around once every so many years, and you just know they're one of a kind....gentle and compassionate and kind and genuinely good hearted. So much so that all that happen to see or know or come across them can tell right away how special and unique they are. Don't mind me. Just drooling over his awesomeness. Your comment made me smile. Confirmed my belief of exactly what kind of a man he was.

The coolest moment like that I have is meeting the frontman of a band (idr the band anymore cus my memory went to trash, I'm sorry) and once he found out I was 16 he tried getting the venue changed to one that allowed minors. Called his agent and everything, but they couldn't get it changed. Got his autograph on a poster somewhere still and there's a photo of us too (he was over a foot taller than me though lmao) and have fought to keep that poster in good condition. Just a super cool moment I'm happy to have had.

Not to join in on the mourn march here but I remember watching this specific episode with my dad (who passed a while back). I remember more of how much I laughed at this episode. It surprises me a little even to this day how much energy that short guy had in him. It's not just his voice work it's the emotion and fun behind it. He's one of those comedians who really put a lot of passion in his work and one of few actors who did genuine good to the world beyond the laughter too. Despite me being only 18 it's a little daunting to think I'll grow old one day and there wont be these amazing actors and comedians that I recall.

What I love about this is that he is truly in the spirit of improv. Improv is all about going with the flow, going along with the lead of another person's joke to create humor. Even though Robin was a huge actor, he still went with that idea in mind. If someone else began a skit, he would go along with it, rather than taking over because he believed his jokes to be better because of his fame. It is very telling, and shows just how much of a real actor he truly was.
