Amazing! Thank you, I'm glad my videos are helpful to you and others. Bike tools are a great investment, my channel literally started from the Park Tool beginners bike mechanic tool that was given to me from 718Cyclery located in Brooklyn, NY. Then the tool collection slowly grew from there, depending on what tool I needed next.

What a great bike. Love it. For my mind 2x10 or 2x11 works great. Not a fan of 1x.. love simplicity..user friendly maintenance. Canti brakes worked great for decades!
@robertdewar17522 жыл бұрын
Cantilever brakes still work very well. For all the braking i do i prefer them over the brake squeal, rotor drag and maintenance routines associated with discs. The only downside is rim wear. Meh.
@CowboyTomi2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Can never go wrong with a 2x group, it covers a lot of ground as far as riding goes. I totally respect the 1x in keeping it minimal, but I just love my gears! And Canti’s ftw, so simple to work on and did great in the (very muddy) cross race.

Recently traded my old gravel bike for a Bridgestone Anchor C9, its more like a touring bike but close to cyclocross when it comes to geometry. Currently running it singlespeed, but this build made me want to put more miles on it and maybe add a 2x10 too in the future. Anyways, great work man!

Do you have any advice on covering paint chips? I restored a 1998 Gary FIsher Big Sur from a thrift store. they were throwing it away, so I offered 5 bucks and got it 😄.The only thing I cannot do is fix is the paint. It is peeling a lot. Do you think it would be better to cover it up with some sort of adhesive sticker, or should I just try to repaint it?
@CowboyTomi2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if It doesn't have any rust, I'd just use a frame wax spray by the spray.bike company and apply a coat or 2. As for re-painting, it would just turn into a longer project, but it's always worth stripping everything down because the parts could possibly be checked too.

I've always loved the purposeful look of Spinergy 4-spokes and always wanted a set. How do they ride? Looks like a harsh ride? I didn't realise the UCI had sanctioned these wheels, especially for cyclo-x, but then i'm not up to speed at all with the current rules. The bike kind of reminds me of the Marin Titanium with the pink forks. Regards.
@CowboyTomi2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! They are fast wheels and great during the cross race I participated in, however not ideal since they are old and dangerous to ride depending on the condition. The hubs are not the best, but still very smooth ride.
@jonamcc2 жыл бұрын
most races at lower cat levels are not UCI and don’t really care what bike you ride, as long as it’s not an e bike, and single speed for the single speed race

Is that gearing a bit heavy for CX? Not trying to sound like a wimp, but I'm new to CX from road/MTB and 50T off-road sounds rough.
@CowboyTomi2 жыл бұрын
Great question, the big ring is definitely too heavy. I wanted the 2x drivetrain so that I can also do some road cycling with this bike. I pretty much stayed in the small ring during the whole race.
@mydearriley2 жыл бұрын
@@CowboyTomi I've been struggling with my CX to "gravel" bike build to find a good gear range. I picked up a 39/26 Truvativ X9 for a good deal, but I tripped myself up with the BB standards. It's PF30 and my BSA to BB30 adapter BB is just too wide for the spindle. Back to square 1. Might have to stick with the square taper, or something Shimano.
@billkallas17622 жыл бұрын
I still have a set of Spinergy Rev-X wheels. They are so old, the rear is a freewheel type. You just have to check the joint between the "spokes" and the rim for cracks. I do not believe that they are legal for racing anymore. Sachs and Shimano 7 speed freewheels indexed perfectly with Campy 8 speed Ergo shifters (you just had to lock out the last shift) PS. You can't go wrong with an old school, Flite saddle.
@CowboyTomi2 жыл бұрын
Nice! Thank you! Thankfully the rim seams were still good and apparently this wheel set was donated to Bike Works Seattle by the founder of ControlTech Components!
@timcikovic27782 жыл бұрын
Not legal for a reason. One spoke breaks and they instantly collapse into extremely sharp spinning daggers. No point in checking them. They can show no signs of wear and still fall apart and tear you and nearby riders to shreds.
@Bored-G2 жыл бұрын
hi sir, did u fit an oversize fork to standard frame? and what headset was used?
@CowboyTomi2 жыл бұрын
The fork was a standard carbon fork that wasn’t oversized. the headset is a very old mtb headset that the frame originally came with.

There was never a recall of any Spinergy wheel model. I have yet to see a failure rate report. Material failures happen to every bike component resulting in crashes.

Why change the fork? Why the carbon blade wheels and inferior colored tires? Cool frame though.
@CowboyTomi2 жыл бұрын
I did like the old fork, but wanted something lighter and that goes for the wheels also, plus they're Spinergy's! It did great in the cyclocross races! and I wanted more color in the build, so I got offered these limited color gravel kings.
@martinhartmann31212 жыл бұрын
I agree re the forks. Steel fork makes for 80% of that "steel bike feel". There's nothing inferior about the colour edition gravelkings though, they ride exactly like the black rubber ones.

Be careful with those Spinergy wheels. Those "spokes" are sharp. I cut my finger a couple of times on them. They might just be the best-looking wheelset ever, but that's the only good thing I can say about them. Not trying to be a jerk - just passing along my own experience. They are fragile, subpar build quality, poor bearing life, flexy, etc.

@@CowboyTomi point is, those spinning blades of carbon that are very stiff and sharp, do not belong in a cx race with arms and fingers etc. they just dont. most organizers that know the difference wouldn't allow them.
@CowboyTomi2 жыл бұрын
@@heywasuphelo3425 Very true, I’ll most likely be doing road riding with them only from this point on. I don’t plan on using them as my cx wheelset in the future.

Best place for spinergys is in the trash. They give no indication of wear or fatigue. If one spoke breaks there are only three points of contact. They then instantly collapse and become shards of spinning daggers. Extremely dangerous to you and other riders. Destroy them first so no one finds and uses them and get them in the trash today !
