Thanks for doing this testing! That batoning is something that is certainly beyond what a folder should be used for, but very impressive that it held up. I know you just do it for extreme durability testing, and it is appreciated.
@Stassa239 ай бұрын
Yeah now I usually only do the extreme stuff either when I am pretty sure it can handle it or when a company makes a bold claim that they made a folder that is either like a fixed blade and I usually chuckle a little or if they claim it’s a hard use knife. Man I gotta admit this knife has some of the tightest lockup after doing the extreme stuff than almost all the knives I’ve done it with the only other one that felt like it was the Microtech manual Stitch 👍🍻🍻

The only other two folders that I can recall taking the same abuse was my Microtech Ram Lock Stitch and my Demko AD20 and I would say the AD20 is the strongest of the bunch however this Vosteed is more of an edc knife size and weight than the other two 👍🍻🍻

This seems like the lock of the future. I’ve seen disassemblies and it’s just super solid. Other pivot locks seem pretty flimsy (utilize thin metal tabs) by comparison. I’m guessing no patent here, so it would be cool to see what other companies can do with this too.

Why does Vosteed find it necessary to kickstart this?
@giantfatberg10 ай бұрын
Marketing ploy. Creates a sense of urgency for people to get behind it because if you don’t it won’t get made.
@roosamiam9 ай бұрын
The advantages of using a Kickstarter are pretty much the same as a "pre-sale" and include access to a large audience of potential customers, the ability to test the market and validate the idea, and the opportunity to raise funds without giving up equity. It also generates a lot of publicity, and a large number of people will already have this knife when it goes on sale, which generates immediate reviews.
@Dani-wn6wh9 ай бұрын
This kickstarter thing seems to be en vogue… from an economical persoective it is soooo wrong, especially when real companies go for it: If someone thinks he has something to sell he should produce it instead of sharing the risk of economic fail! I can afford to not support companies that do this. When we assume that Economy is communication, the language of which is paying money, what would this kickstarter thing mean? If a little kid has a big idea and needs help from unknown people because he/she is orfan… I get it. But a company fundraising in this way? Naahhhh!

As other reviewers have stated, Vosteed should've used T8 screws for the pivot cap.
@CheekyMenace9 ай бұрын
And what more would that have achieved other than your convenience?? Had they used T8 you probably would then complain that they look too big for the size of pivot and should have used T6. You and everyone else didn't design it and have no idea why they may have chosen what they did. Always something to bitch about...
@doktorb3at9 ай бұрын
@@CheekyMenaceIf you're going to make a robust lock, then you want a screw that won't easily strip to hold it in place.
@CheekyMenace9 ай бұрын
@@doktorb3at There's an easy fix for that ... Stop cranking them down so damn tight, there's no need for it. Not sure what you have but I don't own a single knife that requires tightening the pivot that much without it killing the action.

@@CheekyMenacePivot screws are T8.
@CheekyMenace9 ай бұрын
@@doktorb3at Ok, well now there's two T6'S to fit into the same small space. What's your point?? There's no rule that says any screw that has to do with the pivot MUST be T8.
@nameless-yd6koАй бұрын
No one puts pressure on the top of a blade in use that would close it in the handle, so there really is not much need for a lock to be able to hang a car engine to keep from closing. Normal use prevents closing that way. All these locks are a solution to a problem that didn't exist, just for PR and price increase and 'bragging rights'. A knife that would benefit from a good lock is one that you go around stabbing people with. A stabber needs a good lock. How many of you Walter Mittys go about stabbing people with folding knives? Why do you think that the traditional stiletto locks are barely functional? Want a test that has some value, take your knife, open it, lay it FLAT on a table with the blade extending over the edge of the table. Clamp the handle and add progressive weight on the blade! Most use requires lateral pressure, from carving to sharpening to prying. Lets see what this test says about the 'tanks' out there. Do they still stack up? Will the steel break before the joint? Lets get some real test numbers that aren't blowing smoke! ;)
