Surprised there are so few comments but an excellent presentation.Slightly different to the small plastic bucket systems

Wicking beds need to be in everyone’s back yard and council garden.

29:00 Some older crude oil water tanks have a sightglass mounted on the sides which show the water, oil, and interface levels. It's already out there; has been for decades at least. Just fitting it to this application.

When I use sand to make wicking beds, I can get it free, I use more ag pipe/weeping tile in the reservoir. This gives more water holding space and still wicks well

Is the geotextile necassarry? I've seen one design with the corners folded so there is direct contact with the soil, and it's the same for earthbox style beds. Pros and cons of using geotextile ?
@veryediblegardens11 ай бұрын
We recommend using geotextile in your wicking bed to prevent the soil falling down into the water reservoir.

Have you had any rodents in your wicking beds, especially in the reservoir? Do I need to add hardware cloth ? We are in the US/Connecticut.

We haven't had any problems with rodents in our wicking beds. :)

Ok, thanks. Just concerned the pond liner would be damaged.

Hello, what is the best material to put in the reservoir, considering capilar effect and water holding capacity? Tks

Can you use a automated float for thirsty tomatoes?
@veryediblegardens Жыл бұрын
We haven't used this setup but we find that the design we use works well for growing tomatoes.

I found 23cm soil depth too shallow. I need a deep reservoir as i like extended holidays. Cutting an ibc in half gives me 2 beds but they just are not deep enuf. Looking to raise the plastic sides 60cm ...
@veryediblegardens11 ай бұрын
It's remarkable how little soil depth plants need in a wicking bed due to the water reservoir, but 23cm is on the shallow side. Adding to the depth of the water reservoir might not help that much though, as there's a limit to how high water will wick. Maybe an automatic watering system to fill them up occasionally would be the best option if you go away for extended periods.

@@veryediblegardens i found my plants looked sad until i lowered the reservoir level. They look good. Still learning. :)

Sorry but, an hour long how to when MANY others do it in 15 mins or less. And then even worse, two full minutes of rambling before getting to the topic. I'm American - I'm outta here!

Totally agree.....👍

Yeah. They didn't start talking about the topic/video title until about 5 minutes into the video. I get sidetracked easily in which I did at the beginning of this video because of the rambling but picked it up again later and watched some until I got sidetracked again. Anyway, did eventually watch it long enough and came away with some ideas of my own and comparing how they do theirs vs another I've seen do it a different way.

Can you talk any slower? You made an interesting topic very boring. I'm sure I will be missing valuable information, but I can't stand listening to you any longer. You believing a garden negatively affects our environment makes me thing you have a grandiose view of people. The environment has never been constant and always changing.
