Not surprised the alarms are Simplex TrueAlert horn/strobes, easily one of the loudest electronic horn/strobes out there (it's about as loud as the System Sensor SpectrAlert Advance and the Wheelock AS.)

I noticed you had a DIY retrofit on your SOLO 330 for testing the air sampling tubes. Did JCI not provide you with a SOLO 365 with an air sampling tube adapter?

I currently do not have that particular attachment. This gadget was made by one of our other techs.

So how come they went with this system as opposed to a normal smoke detector set up? Is there a special purpose with that building that requires very early detection? Seems to be a bit of an extreme system purely for occupant safety.

The building houses very high dollar electronics in areas that must be closely monitored for signs of overheating.

So, do VESDAs use some sort of photoelectric sensor, and are there ways to adjust the sensitivity on the network (probably a stupid question, but just curious)?

Each individual sampling unit contains a laser chamber in which the air is circulated and filtered. Units can be configured for sensitivity along with carry out other various diagnostics from the network head end. The software I've seen go into these systems is quite remarkable.
