As a Romanian, we are not ethnically part of the slavic family but culturally, historically and geographically we share a lot so this resonated with me and I loved all the clever symbolism, all the details about imperialism, propaganda, unity of slavic "sisters" from an equal footing, respecting and acknowledging each one is unique and independent, all the cultural refrences. @@maraya707 If that's the case, let Ukraine withdraw, since the rational thing to do is to save their country and not party along. I don't see why Eurovision should always revolve around them. Apart from that, almost every European government has given everything possible to save Ukraine, including weapons, money and military equipment, not to mention the hostage of refugees. But above everything, the sanctions to Russia are the biggest sacrifice since inflation in Europe has increased dramatically the past few months, we face lack of multiple products or we can't afford to purchase them. And you want to rig the results of one of our very few enjoyments left in order to get credit? No, two unfair victories (including the one in 2016) and a decade of drama with the participations and withrawals of either Russia or Ukraine are enough. Of course I understand how severe the situation is, but keep it out of Eurovision. Europe has already done for you more than it is capable of, at least be grateful for our support till now and don't be greedy.

Not to mention the exaggerated emphasis they put on Russia being included in their representation of Slavic countries (btw I don't give a flying fuck about being Slavic and many Slavic people don't) while Ukrainians are in this type of situation. How the hell can they win points because of what's happening Ukraine while also emphasising Russia's involvement? Think about the Ukrainians and how it must feel for them. If a country was throwing bombs on yours, wouldn't you hate anyone asking you to love them at the moment? Of course it's not okay to hate Russians, but we have to be mindful of Ukraine. « Your sister’s crown » is full of blood🩸.The hypocrisy of this video is mind-blowing. Since 2014, the Ukrainian regime was bombing houses, schools, hospitals in the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. For 8 years innocent civilians were killed by Ukrainian forces. For 8 years people were hiding from bombs and lived in shelters built underground because being on the ground could put you at risk of being shot. The entire generation of children was raised in these underground shelters. For 8 years people of Donetsk and Luhansk started organizing defence groups in order to defend themselves from the Ukrainian terrorism. Also, you don’t talk about the massacre at the trade union building in Odessa where people have been burned alive in 2014. And now you all “Stand with Ukraine” 🇺🇦 , walk with Ukrainian flags, and support this terrorist regime. I personally met people from Donetsk and Luhansk and the stories they are telling me are heartbreaking. These people are warriors. They’ve been resisting the terrorism of Ukrainian regime for years. For all people who « Stand with Ukraine », think that Ukraine is a victim of « Russian aggression », I wish you guys to experience what the people of Donetsk and Luhansk have been experiencing all these 8 years. Hopefully, your views will change.

Love the song! 🤩🤩 Finally a traditional ethnic song with (also) Czech language that I've been waiting for so many years. And the symbolisms 🤩 For those who might not know, Vesna is a pagan Slavic goddess of spring that is known in all Slavic cultures. Then the nationalities of the girls are 🇨🇿🇸🇰🇧🇬🇷🇺, the languages are Czech, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, English. There are so many things that they are connecting together and the symbolisms are just mindblowing. One of the Slavic sisters is in danger, but (as the Czech lyrics say in the beginning) she won't go to the corner, she won't listen to you, she is wild in her heart. And then the parts in Ukrainian: "beautiful sister, you are strong, the crown is yours". Wish there was a bit more of Czech lyrics (than only the few lines in the beginning), but that's just a nitpicking... I was waiting all the years to see my country sending something more traditional, ethnic, in our language, connected to our culture... and this year we finally have a huge chance! 😍🤩 We can't throw this opportunity away! Wish you good luck and see you in Eurovision! 🙏🙏❤️❤️🥰

This song is not about Russia and Ukraine being sisters. This is a Czech song about Czech's slavic sister Ukraine being attacked by the same nation that invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968 during Prague Spring. Czechs feel very strong solidarity with Ukraine because the Warsaw Pact invasion of 68 (which Ukraine participated in mind you, with Russia) was the reason Czechs have silently but strongly despised Russians for far longer before Ukraine's current situation. The song lyrics clearly talk about slavic countries coming from the same cultural and linguistic family (hence sisters) being under attack by someone that is supposed to be close to them yet betrays them, choosing power over love (hence them saying choose love over power, that is aimed at the invader that is choosing power over love for its neighbours). The opening lyrics in Czech are clearly aimed as a defence of Ukraine "my sister won't be cornered, she won't listen to you, my sister is wild at heart, she won't have her hair braided (by russia), she won't listen to you." And thus Czech's sister Ukraine shall keep her crown (pride and independence) and not have it taken down by Russia.

Judging by some of the reactions from Ukrainians here I got the impression that the message is not clear enough to understand... Try to find more hidden symbols or check out some of the Vesna's interviews (they are in Czech or Englis only tho), they are explaining their intentions and the overall concept into more details... These are just a few of them: 1) The prologue is talking about a "Slavic kingdom" with a sisterhood and happiness. They are referring to the age of 5th century, when the Slavic tribes came to Europe. There are, in facts, historical proves that the Slavic tribes of that time weren't even nearly as competitive with each other as the Germanic tribes for instance. That's also why the Slavic languages are closer to each other, with more similarities (depends on the geographical location) than the Romanic or Germanic languages of these days (and since Slavs were historically the last tribe that came to Europe, years after the Germanic tribes). 2) The purple colour of the male bulliers is traditionally the colour of imperialism (since in the history the purple colour was the most difficult colour to get, that time it was only possible to get a small amount of it from a specific species of sea snails, that's also why there are only 2 countries in the whole world that have the purple colour in their flags - the Dominican republic and Nicaragua, because these flags were created much later and that time there were more technological options to create the purple colour. On the other hand, most of the world's flags have a long history behind them and since in the history it was so difficult to get the colour, we don't really see it in the current flags as well...). So the purple colour = (Russian) imperialism. 3) As you can see, the purple (bad) bullies are only men, all the group members and (good) sisters are women - so we can clearly see a reference to the patriarchal society too... 4) The scene when the girl in blue (she presents the Russian federation - the colours she is wearing match the colours of Russian flag) is tasting the ukrainian soup and rice (the literal ground of Ukraine), she then wants more and more of it...until she become possessed. 5) The shape in the scene when the young sister (Ukraine) is beeing surrounded and encircled by the purple bulliers embles a star (symbolising the red communist star = communism). 6) Russia (also a Slavic country) is not mentioned as a Slavic sister here, there is no Russian language at all, but there are other Slavic languages that are similar and related to each other (related as the sisters in the video - another symbol) - Czech and Bulgarian. 7) Ofc this video is glorifying the Slavic origins of Europe, their haritage, culture and folklore, but Slavic doesn't mean Ukraine and Russia only! There are other Slavic nations and that's why there are 3 different Slavic languages from 3 different geographical Slavic language families (for the western Slavs it's Czech, the eastern Slavs it's Ukrainian and the southern Slavs from the Balkan peninsula it's Bulgarian). And the group's main inspiration - the Slavic traditions and folklore - is obvious even from the name of the group Vesna = an old pagan Slavic goddess of spring and fertility, that is well known in all Slavic nations. 8) All these nations (CZ, SK, BG, UA) have their bad experience with Russian imperialism (there was a Soviet invasion to Czechoslovakia in 1968). 9) Seems like you got also upset by the Russian girl in Vesna band singing in Ukrainian lnguage. You can't judge someone based on his/her nationality - nobody can choose where they want to be born. She left Russia for good reasons, currently living in the Czech Republic and she is against the war... and there are a lot of people in the Czech Republic that were born in Russia and they are against the war. I can't understand this logic to hate someone for only one fact that nobody can even decide or influence by themselves and so cannot be responsible for it - a birthplace. The things that they can influence and are responsible for are those things to love/hate on a certain person. By this logic we - Czechs and Slovaks - could blame Ukrainians too cause Breznev was the one who ordered the Soviet invasion to Czechoslovakia in 1968 and he was born in Ukraine... 10) In the scene when a girl is making her make up done in front of a mirror, she is doing it firstly by herself but when a purple creature appears in the mirror, she looses the control of her make up. At the end, she looks horrible/messy. This might also be a reference to the Russian propaganda on how countries should look like according to Russia, in the end looking messed up or horrible (a reference to the communist regime and the Russian influences of that time, we also know it very well in Czechoslovakia, current Czech Republic and Slovakia). 11) Toward the end of the video, the girls are singing and smiling, pretending everything is alright (sadly this is the real situation of how civil Russians in Russia are receiving this war in their TV and other national medias... 12) "We are not your dolls" it relates to the fact that all these Slavic sisters (CZ, SK, BG, UA, but also Poles etc.) were occupied by the Russian army in the past and they become independent, individual countries with their own national identity (with their own crowns). Russia has no right to "possess" these dolls and these dolls are not listening the demands from Russia anymore. We, Slavic sisters (CZ, SK, BG, UA) are each independent countries now with an independent national identity, but at the same time related and close to each other (like the sisters in the video) by our languages, traditions, folklore and overall Slavic culture... And that's what the whole concept of the group is - having their members from different Slavic nations, pointing out on our common Slavic cultural treasures, the similarities in our languages etc., but also addressing the current socio-political situation. I thought that our nations (Czechs/Slovaks - Ukrainians) have always had a good relationships. So did Poles etc. And all of these 3 nations are helping you as much as they can (taking the Ukrainian immigrants, giving them shelters and jobs, education for kids, sending you the military supplies and medical equipments). And all of these 3 countries are Slavic, they are the Slavic sisters that support our Slavic Ukrainian sister that is in need. Hope the overall message is a bit clearler now for you (if not, check out some of the Vesna's interviews - they are only in Czech or English tho, they are explaining the concept and their intentions into more details)... You know a lot of russians are trying to pull out the card "i left russia", but all of them hanging out with Ukrainians are used in Russian and Western propaganda "look Russian and Ukrainian girls are hugging, there can be peace between brotherly nations". Ukrainians do not want peace, we want justice and freedom away from russia. As for immigrants from russia, they all are doing nothing or not enough. They cannot redeem the lives that have been taken by other russians. They all share the same responsibility because of their silence and deafness and inactivity. They did nothing, they do nothing, they complain that they are not supported to the same extent as Ukrainians, they continue bullying Ukrainians abroad and even fight. if this band refers to some ancient slavic history, they'd better know that the same thing Putin did to justify invasion and genocide. They'd better know that main value in my country is freedom not a stable pretty crown on someone's head.

Ukraine is not anyone “younger” sister and russia is not our sister for sure, it’s not Slavic country first of all, but finno-ugric, but they try hard to deny it Regarding Breznev, he was born maybe in territory of Ukraine, but he was not Ukrainian and never claimed himself as Ukrainian. Other contests are try to read and understand clearly without explanation. Why to use purple if color of russia is white, red and blue …

Thank you for the explanation I feel a sense of relief that there are Slavic people who take all of the Slavic people as their own as long as they are nice in spirit 🥺 Greetings from Serbia! I would love to see this song compete, it's among my favourites 💕

This song is literally SO GOOD. The message behind it is good too, it's probably too early to say this, but I think this is a potential winner!

Fantastic entry, unifying many different wonderful dialects of the Slavic language, I seriously can't even remember the last time that the Czech Republic chose to offer such a uniquely tradititional and culturally rich entry. I do understand that the concept of the song is about glorifying Ukrainian peoples' cultural and mental strength, emphasising on Slavic tradition and being anti-war and, despite already seeing the concept be unravelled for the first time in last year's contest about the occuring war between Russia & Ukraine, it's still so fresh-sounding and utterly haunting. The rap parts are perfectly composed and the chorus is nonetheless enchanting. Czech Republic are on their way to pull a "Portugal 2018" out of their hat, messages aside, all the elements, especially the folk/modern mix instrumentation complement each other FLAWLESSLY!!

@@Mariia_Ballerina nope! There are three czechs, one slovak, one bulgarian and one ethnically russian (who doesn't sing in the live version, she is strongly against the russian regime so please do NOT judge her on her ethnicity/nationality it is not her fault) and the song is clearly multilanguage. There is czech, bulgarian, english and ukrainian. The song might be refering to the current situation, however, you can basically apply it anywhere else. The message is visible in the video, so you can watch it again

@@beeweysn5909 this song is in Ukrainian, why then should Czechs, Slovaks, Bulgarians and Russian women sing in Ukrainian?
@beeweysn5909 Жыл бұрын
@@Mariia_Ballerina the song is MULTILANGUAGE. It is sung in 4 different languages. And they sing in czech because half of them are czech, in bulgarian because one of them is bulgarian, in english because it unites them and in ukrainian to express their solidarity with Ukraine's suffering for the past year. Just search them up, they're based in Czechia. And they are one of the nominees to represent Czech Republic on Eurovision

12 points from Australia, this is a very very special song, it has Winner vibes in a big way, stage this as professional looking as this vid and I can't see anyone beating it, I so want to see Czech Republic take the Eurovision crown.

I'm from the US, but have Czech roots on my dad's side. I fell in love with Eurovision a few years ago, and I am so glad I did because it brought me to this song, which is so absolutely beautiful. I keep listening to it and discovering new aspects to love about it. I know it didn't win, but I think Vesna should be incredibly proud of this song and their performance. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world!

I am not Slavic at all I’m Canadian but I assume like everyone here…this is a song that will always touch my heart every time I listen to it. I know there’s some hatred and rumours as to this song however I don’t agree, I feel that the message that they are trying to send is extremely appropriate and what the world needs #chooseloveoverpower
