That gorgeous aggressively forward leaning seat stem, the upswept single seat & the downward sloped rear rack are simply a work of art. Like a sports car, perhaps not practical in the sense of real world daily use & no storage to speak of that you expect in a scooter, entirely bespoke/handmade with all those luxurious aluminum parts & oh so beautiful. I especially love the fairly recent Giorgio Armani edition. Absolutely stunning. One of these days... FYI: the most recent incarnation; the Christian Dior Special Edition is currently listed between $35 000 & $40 000 CDN$ depending on dealer as of this posting here in Canada. Pretty sure that's bare bones without the luggage/accessories. I think the one I saw in Vancouver was around $37 000. Maybe, just maybe I too will find one for around ten or eleven thousand $ one day as you did. This was an excellent self aware, informative, straight up video. Good on you sir. Well done! *Edit: You just rightfully earned a new subscriber in me along with a thumbs up.. Cheers from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. On a side note, although not a 946, the new "Justin Bieber" Primavera is an abomination. What does he know from Vespa?! What does he know from anything? I get the concept of accomplished designers & artists working with Vespa but fruity, puff pastry pop stars? Too bad there isn't a Salvador Dali or Pablo Picasso edition out there somewhere, or maybe you know some more things I don't know? Is there a chance of it being a reality?

Well, thank you and my apologies for the late reply, I was on a bike trip. I just cannot believe the Christian Dior variant sold out! Strangely, I like the Justin Bieber edition but would have to de-Justinfy it and peel up all the stickers. The ghosted out Vespa looks good to me. I feel like I need to turn in my man card for saying this. lol I wouldn't sell my 946 for anything! I purchased it from Af1 In Austin, TX and rode it home in the rain 1,800 miles to VA. I need to shoot a video about that journey but I fear it won't be very engaging as I have no video for it, just static photos. I personally like videos about smaller motorcycles & Scooters ,even though I’ve owned larger bikes. Yamaha SMax 155 cc Scooter is faster & less than half the the cost. Yamaha Xmax 300 cc is less than $6000 . I’ve owned both . My favorite day of all time on any two wheels was on the Yamaha SMax 155 cc ,that day I was wishing my destination was further than the distance I had to travel that day. The Yamaha Xmax 300 cc is a great mile cruncher & comfortable for long trips top speed of 85mph. I hope Honda releases the Forza 300/400 cc Scooter back into the 🇺🇸 USA.

I've got a 150cc Honda scooter (PCX) for my daily driver, and a Harley Fat Bob for pleasure rides/cruising. They're definitely on opposite sides of the spectrum, but each one is great at what it does (and I'm extremely happy with both)! I'm sure it rubs some people wrong, but life's too short to fret over such nonsense. If folks leave your channel over non-Harley content, it's their loss.

I'm sure you've stumbled across a few in your days Eric, but SOME members of the Harley community are extremely fickle! Some go so far as to turn against each other over things like sportster vs big twin, Shovelhead vs M8, air vs water cooled, etc (for example). Rather than appreciating things that are unique, everything different is verboten. While I'm sure that these types would take issue with the inverted forks or the rectangular led headlight on my Fat Bob, they would soil themselves if I still had my 1975 Suzuki RE5 with the rotary engine ;) lol

Well, as a long-time Vespa evangelist myself, I have to say your reflections on the 946 answered a few of the questions I've had about that scooter for a long, long time. Probably the most common would be: "Why would anyone pay that kind of money for a Vespa?" You've answered the question fully and I now understand. I've seen a couple of these in the local Vespa dealership when we still had a dealership here. They were definitely pretty and it was plain to see how well made they were but I never got past the price. I used to buy Leica M6 35mm rangefinder cameras and lenses. Far more expensive than the Canon and Nikon SLRs that are fully functional. But the Leica had a mystique coupled with impeccable craftsmanship and optics. I loved owning and using those cameras and did until I finally sold them in favor of digital cameras. I see the 946 as a kind of Leica mindset. Your comments on long rides on a 155cc scooter are spot on. Every ride is an adventure on a scooter. My first was a Vespa LX150 and I put 13 thousand miles on mine in a little over a year. It was fully capable of crisscrossing the United States if I had the time and inclination. My current 2006 Vespa GTS250 is well worn at 44 thousand miles. I see another Vespa in my future -- I'll probably bite the bullet and buy a brand new one despite having to dole out $9000 in the process. You offered the reasons why in the video when you said it will be the last 2 wheeled machine you'll ride. I suspect the same will be true for me. Thanks for putting together such a thoughtful, personal reflection on your Vespa.

Thank you for watching some of my older content. I'm sure we'll cross paths at some point and I'll throw you the keys to have a go on her. I have zero regrets. Thank you for the great comment. Eric

@@KrakensGarageandAdventures It's funny how lifespan math seems to intrude more and more often. I find myself calculating my age from the age my dad died. And other, similarly uncomfortable calculations. You're right, of course, that some decisions just make more sense at some points in life and it becomes easier to make decisions about spending money. We each have our own unique circumstances, but I can also see the common sound among us of a ticking clock...
@Imightberiding2 жыл бұрын
Your 946 & Leica analogy was spot on for me. I still have my old camera bodies & lenses. Couldn't give them up. I still develop & print black & white iilm in my basement & rue the day, whenever that actually was that the local camera shops stopped developing my colour rolls of film. There are a few specialty purveyors still clinging or reintroduced to the old ways. With quality camera bodies, optics & film, just like the 946, you either get it or you don't. That was well said on your part.
@ScooterintheSticks2 жыл бұрын
@@Imightberiding I have a full darkroom in my basement too. And until a couple years ago I even had an 8x10 enlarger. I've not done any analog photography in over a year now and have sold all but one of my film cameras. I just can't bring myself to say goodbye to that life.

Outstanding review of the 155cc Vespa scooter. I really don’t care which 155cc you are talking about. They are all exceptional. We own three 2 wheelers; a 2023 EV and a 2023 Hydrogen vehicle. As you say, once you take a ride on the “Primavera” Vespa (which ever model you harken to)it just puts a smile not only on your face but on the face of the passengers and drivers who pull up next to you! Most of the comments are about when they were in college they had a Vespa or coool scooter! Our “Scoot” is a 2021 Sean Wotherspoon 155cc super cutie. We ride 2 up most of the time as my wife enjoys this ride as much as our 2022 Triumph T120 Bonneville Gold Edition in BRG/ Silver Metallic. I completely agree with the other reviewer who complemented you on your objective review. I too wish it had a little more “Grunt” as the British say so I compromised and had variator installed to give a little more “punch.” I just exceeded my 2 year free warrantee so now I am on my own. Was considering a Malossi Cyclinder kit for a bigger bore but decided not to do so because it would compromise the MPG and put excessive wear on the drive belt. Again great job on your review. Our KZbin site is Russ&GRace if you want to see out video’s. Russ & Grace.

Great review - unique and very informative. And I second (third?) your comments on the GTS300 - I recently bought a 2023 GTS300 SuperSport and it is a fantastic machine. I love it. So much so, that my Harley Davidson Sportster is just sitting in the garage and is looking more and more like a candidate for sale. I always loved my Sportster (now with over 110,000 Klm’s on it) but surprisingly the Vespa is way ahead of it in almost every way. And it’s also fine for highway riding.

@Imightberiding2 жыл бұрын
The GTV is second only to the venerable 946 as far as prestige/desirability & style . I am envious of you & your GTV along with Kraken & his 946. THE GTV is actually my first choice for my next Vespa before the 946. More available & attainable for me. The new GTV 300 Sei Giorni looks pretty fabulous. Although, one day, some day it will be a 946 for me. I'm still not sold on the HPE scoots though. Talk of excessive oil usage, belts constantly breaking & of course twice the maintenance & upkeep/service costs. Sounds kinda like an Apple/I-Phone product. Planned obsolescence. My top pic for the large frame GTS Vespas are the 2018-2019 models. Fuel injection started in 2009 but no ABS etc. ABS/Traction Control introduced in 2015 but also from 2015-2018 they messed/screwed with the front suspension & forks. They went back to the tried & true suspension in 2018. Non HPE engines, ABS/Traction Control & a proper front fork assembly & suspension makes the 2018-2019 the best, most reliable, low maintenance GTS Vespa on the market at the moment IMHO. That's not to say I'm not interested in a new HPE GTV 300 Sei Giorni. Just some musings & observations from a man of a certain age (read old) with years in the saddle.

If you go on that direction, just barely fill it with enough air to get your butt off the seat. In doing this, you won't modify the bike and devalue it. I hope my thoughts help. Eric

Great review. Love the styling of this scooter. And I’m in Austin where you got your 946. What do you think of the new Lunar edition, year of the rabbit, and plans for more?
@KrakensGarageandAdventures10 ай бұрын
My apologies for the reply. I've fallen behind, and I'm just now getting caught up. As for the Lunar edition, it's not my cup of tea. The color is wild, though. The rabbit graphics are a bit much for me.

@@KrakensGarageandAdventures lol. Well, I love that color and the graphic appeals to me but I was hoping for something my traditional. However, at this point leaning toward at GTS BUT I love the 946!

How is the seat for all day riding? I have the opportunity to get a 2014 and I may pull the trigger. Sort of funny that I used your ZX4-RR video to pull the trigger on it as well. Life of a 61 year old that never grew up.

At 6'4" tall, it's just okay. Think like you're sitting on a toilet. I prefer a semi lean forward position. So my spine doesn't absorb all the impact of bumps. That said, I have put many 8 to 10 hour days in the saddle. Also, the seat sits very tall compared to other Vespas. I hope my thoughts help. Let me know if you pick one up. 🛵💨🦑

Never saw that edition before. It's beautiful. Curious if you've had any other Vespa's or dove right in to the 946. It's too bad that they are making the 946 into a rich person's collector toy. The latest edition selling at nearly $25K is a bit much. I've been riding since my Rupp minibike days. Been up & down the bike spectrum of just about every type of riding. I always seem to work my way back to a scooter. Just bought a Sei Giorni here in NY. Can't wait for spring. Wife rides a Primavera. Life is Good. Thanks for a great video.
@KrakensGarageandAdventures2 жыл бұрын
I've owned a few scooters, Smax, Xmax and a couple others. So to answer your question directly; yes, the 946 was my first Vespa. They were on my radar and I started researching the 946. It has the same powertrain as your wife's Primavera (assuming it's a 155 cc) air cooled 3 valve motor. The latest iteration at 22 to 25k is insane. Keep your eyes peeled for a nice used one, I occasionally see one in the 5 to 6k range with very few miles on them. If you and the Mrs. ever head south and swing through VA, reach out to me and you can have a go on mine. I did purchase a '20 GTS 300 Supertech but sold it last fall for another project I'm working on. The Sei Giorni is stunning and I bet you love it! I'll own another GTS someday and a Vespa will be in my stable for many, many years to come. Congratulations on the Sei Giorni! Thanks for watching, Eric

@@KrakensGarageandAdventures Funny story. A few years back I had a Kymco GT300i. My wife had an LX150. One of the guys a retired with (Harley Guy) sponsored a suicide prevention ride every year. Of course, we rode in it. About 40 Harley's a Kymco and a Vespa. At the end of the day, we all shared the same beers, laughs and conversations. We just had a lot less chrome than them. 6'4" guys can ride scooters too. I am hoping to host a DGR up here in the Hudson Valley one of these years. Ride safe-

You are so right the beer and food all tastes the same at the end of the ride. Good stuff! If you haven't checked put advrider.com,come, to the "Battle Scooters" forum and there's a load of good folks that post there. I have a massive thread there but YT is sucking the life out of me lately. Warm days are just around the corner! All the best, Eric

Great review, thank you. Quick question- I’ve heard the saddle described as hinged. Is the saddle actually hinged, and does it absorb shock up and down the way the hinged saddles on old Vespa’s do?

Hey Eric go price it today. 13,499. I just got my wife a 150 Primavera Mickey Mouse, it was a last year’s model for 2023 and I got it for 4.4K, but payed 6.3k by the time I got it home. You and I would be best of friends if we had ever met and lived near by. I love all your toy’s and I’ve owned or wanted to own all of them. Thanks for making video’s, I love them. The only bikes I’ve never owned that you do video’s on are Harley, I’ve never owned one. People that unsubscribe because you make other video’s weren’t fan’s in the first place, they were draining your knowledge on the subject.

Fit and finnish of a Harley davidson? Not sure about motorcycles but If you even talked about the fit and finnish "quality" of american made cars you'd be laughed out of the room in the Europe.
