Three more videos I would recommend in particular: The remaining Animated story videos for No Bullets Fly, Night Witches, and Lady of the Dark. For the first one in particular, I do recommend tissues. It does hit pretty hard. And Lady of the Dark contains a neat little nugget if you know your military medals and awards...

fun fact, the charts for the AA guns on the Bismarck were setup for more modern and therefore faster planes, which made it extremly difficult for the german AA crews to hit the attacking Swordfishs, another fun fact, the ships cat survived the sinking of the Bismarck and afterwards the sinking of 2 or 3 british ships before the cat was forbidden to enter british warships

The theme of this video was developed by Sabaton in collaboration with Wargaming for their game World of Warship. All the cinematic scenes of the video are done in CGI and by combining actors in Live Action. Greetings from Argentina.

Easily one of my favorite Sabaton songs. The top favorite goes to “To Hell and Back” which does an incredible job of not just showing Audie Murphy’s exploits but also the PTSD he suffered from BTW, I’m still going to suggest “the first soldier” animated story video

Interesting addendum to the story...not long after the sinking of the Bismarck, the US Navy began to take up an ever increasing responsibility for the defense of the sea lanes in the North Atlantic. In July of 1941, the US landed the 1st Marine Brigade in Iceland to take over the defense of that island from the UK, who had invaded Iceland in May of 1940 to ensure that Germany would not be able to take control of it. The US declared the Atlantic as far east as Iceland to be part of the Pan American Security Zone, and US Navy ships began to take up escort duties from the US to Iceland...on September 10 the US Atlantic Fleet expanded their operations to escort convoys all the way from Halifax to Britain, and the USS Reuben James was the first US warship sunk by a U-Boat on October 31, 1941. Months before the US was officially in the war, the US was already in an undeclared war with Germany, and real war between the US and Germany was inevitable regardless of Japanese actions.

I was lucky enough to see them live in Munich a couple weeks ago. The atmosphere was crazy when they played this song aswell as the Red Baron and Swedish Pagans, those where the highlights of the show for me. The entire stadium sang along. If you enjoy Sabaton you have to go to one of their concerts! They are even better live and its a one of the kind and (at least it feels like) a very personal and unique experience each time. Can't wait till they come back.

great reaction to a banger of a song and an awesome music video thanks to World of Warships CGI. And kudos to Sabaton for actually going out on a small boat on the open sea to film the band shots instead of staying in a safe, warm stage with a green screen. An interesting fact that is never discussed is the role the US Navy played in the pursuit and sinking of the Bismark. US Navy PBY Catalinas were already assisting the British in patrolling for German warships off the coast of Greenland and Iceland, even though the US was officially neutral. The US Coast Guard also had ships deployed in the North Atlantic to engage in search and rescue of ships damaged or sunk in the fighting. At one point, the Bismark had shaken off the British, who were actually looking in the wrong direction for him. Unfortunately for the Bismark, a Coast Guard vessel spotted her distinctive silhouette and radioed the information to US naval command. The message was picked up by a US Navy PBY, who located the Bismark and provided the information the British needed to intercept him.

The wreck of Bismarck was discovered on 8 June 1989 by Robert Ballard, the oceanographer responsible for finding RMS Titanic. Bismarck was found to be resting on her keel at a dept of approximately 4,791 m (15,719 ft), about 650 km (400 mi) west of Brest. 48°10′N 16°12′W

As impressive as Bismarck and her sister ship Tripitz were, Japan’s battleships Yamato and Musashi were much larger (almost, but not quite, twice Bismarck’s tonnage), had twice the German’s ships weight in guns, and would have defeated them easily. They just didn’t have Bismarck’s destructive record and legend. Otto Lindemann, Bismarck’s captain during its eight month reign of terror in the Atlantic was an incredible tactician and commander. Japan misused its huge ships, never truly risking them in combat, and their commanders were definitely not in the same class as Lindemann. In fact, in the end, knowing it could not keep fueling such a beast or feeding its crew of more than 3,000 men, Japan sent Yamato on a suicide mission to attempt gun cover of troops on Okinawa. Only given enough fuel to make it to Okinawa, but not return to Japan, she never made it to the island instead being sunk by American destroyers.

@@faultier8166 Just teasing you! 🙂 I think it wasn't just pride. The Bismarck was unable to maneuver, so it couldn't go anywhere. So, it made sense militarily to scuttle the ship rather than risk being captured by the Brits. It also saved the lives of some of the German sailors.
