And in Carolus Rex at 23:25 he shouts "Forward Caroleans! The enemy´s over there. Lets crush them, and throw them through the gates of hell!"

Fun fact: Indy Neidell the historian in this video actually lives in Sweden (Stockholm) and has his home there. So technically I as a swede who actually will soon move to Stockholm could see him if I’m extremely lucky. And yes he speaks fluent Swedish.

The Swedish part of that song was actually the Lord's Prayer in Swedish

Another thing not mentioned is that Karl XII, the king of Sweden at that time, used to make motivational speeches to his army before the battle, and before marching into the fight together with them, which surely also boosted their morale. If king is going head first into fight, maybe we really have a good chance of victory... On the other hand, this meant that Karl XII was constantly accumulating injuries, sometimes leaving him incapacitated for the rest of the battle. He also never got married, nor had any children. He was a warrior and a king, and nothing else.

Great britains redcoats actually built their army discipline around the Carolean battle technique :). As always great reaction btw big cheer from Sweden

I personally think you gave us a treat with playing Carolus Rex, which is the song about Karl XII, who became king at the age of 15. Furthermore, I love your reactions as always, I will be back watching those come next.

11:35 What he forgets is that the Caroliner were hard drilled to rearm faster than their opponent. With their muskets, it is believed the rearmed 2x speed at least

I think the video left out the bit where the Caroleans were usually singing while marching towards their enemy. Imagine the enemy’s reaction when the Caroleans not only kept matching towards them, despite the heavy fire, but did so with a smile on their face and a massive unified singing voice Must’ve been some beautiful singing when the Caroleans marched

Ooh, yikes. I think the Scots used to do it too. Just bagpipes and singing echoing down the path

They sang and used battle drums too the. The Battle technique were so effective that the British redcoats used same tactics.

I do recommend you check out the kings and generals great northern war series it's super good and also the swedish lyrics for this album make the POV about the person or people they are singing about while the English version is about the wide scale view on the topic like internationally etc also the swedish part is the lords prayer and at the end when it fades out that is supposed to symbolise the army singing the prayer as they march into battle you can even hear the soldiers feet marching and the military drums.

Another great reaction! The Carolus Rex album is about Swedish military history of the 17th century. The songs are mostly chronological but unfortunately (in my opinion) the history episodes are not does not come in chronological order. The first part of the album is about the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) with the songs: Lion from the North (about Gustavus Adolphus which was the Swedish king that took Sweden into the war) Gott mit uns (about the first big victory of the Swedish army in the war) A Lifetime of War (which is about the war overall) 1648 (which is about the end of the war and the last battle of the war) The second part of the album is about the Caroleans and the Great Northern War which saw the end of the empire era in Swedish history. As you noted Kings and Generals have an excellent series on that war which I highly recommed. The war is important also because it is the rise of Russia as a major European power. So it is a bit of a turning point in European history.

Hey if I may can I suggest the entire Carolus Rex album for you to react to all the songs and also in the correct historical order they were made? Sabaton Save this comment or write it down please. React to the Carolus Rex album in this order. Lion from the north/ lejonet från Norden Gott Mitt Uns/ Gott Mitt Uns 1648/ 1648 Lifetime of war/ en livstid i krig (live version from Gothenburg with subtitles enabled for maximum views) Caroleans prayer/ Karolinens bön Carolus Rex/ Carolus Rex Killing Ground/ Ett slag färgat rött Poltava/ Poltava Long live the king/ Konungens likfärd Ruiina Imperii (this one is only in Swedish but there are good videos with English translation) If you follow this order you will have experienced it the way sabaton has intended for people to experience it in the historical order. So please save this and follow it to the letter and not mix them. : ) Also for good videos majority of the Swedish versions don’t have sabaton videos with translation so I highly suggest checking out a channel called Piscator who uploads lyric translation of songs. I highly suggest reacting using his videos to react to when you need to find a Swedish version.

The reason I wrote two versions for most songs is because this album has a Swedish version as well which is most would argue even better than the English one. And there’s a channel called Podcaster that has made videos translating all the Swedish songs so there is English subtitles which I why I suggest checking using him when reacting to them.

My son often wanders into Warhammer 40k and the religeon therein. Im thinking maybee the people making Warhammer 40k was looking at different religeous oriented soldiers thru history and Carouleans was definately borderlining to fanatics when it comes to handling the horrors of war, not saying they were fanatics outside the military but maybee similar to what the vikings thought.

during the time of the caroleans, mercenary armies where predominant in europe and they did not match them in morale or training. these mercenary armies did have alot of experience though.

karl XII was a bit of a nutter tho. went to war at 18 and died at 36, came back to sweden once to visit hes sister. crowned king at 15, took the crown from the bishop and put it on himself, church wasnt holy enough to do it. " crown by God, not the church" bonkers him. good history for whoever wana read up about him

Why did you at the end out on a song on the Carolyn’s Rex album that was a completely different song than Carole and prayer? Carolyn’s Rex song is about Charles the twelfth not the Swedish soldiers. Ffs 19:59 this is a completely different song because it’s called Carole and prayer as the history vid title said. Carolyn’s Rex is another song and the name of the whole album.

@@taliaperkins1389 yeah, the caroleans were fatalists. But that was just a particular feature of being part of being in the army, not the religion in general. :) the swedish religion at the time, and at present time, is lutheran. :) so the predestination thing were just for the boys in blue, from around 1680-1720. :)
