How do you calculate a bolus and what is the rate and tvi ? Thank you so much for helping me 😊
@vet-techbites22Ай бұрын
Hello, For bolus you have to remember that pretty much every conventional IV pump is going to run in mL/hr. So when they give us a bolus of let's say 100mL over 20min, just use a proportion to figure how much that is per hour and set your pump to deliver 100mL at that rate. So 100ml/20min = XmL/60mL, cross multiply, so 60 x 100=6,000 ÷20 = 300mL/hr. So you'd set your pump at 300mL/hr and set vtbi to 100mL and it'll deliver over 20min. You can also just multiply the bolus orders to get over 60min as a shorthand way (100mL over 20min, 20x3 = 60 min, 100 x 3 = 300mL) therefore 300mL/hr is your rate. Hope that helped

I was given a problem like this, but they want us to calculate without removing any fluid from the bag
@vet-techbites222 жыл бұрын
That seems strange, but if I were presented with this, I would do a proportion for what it would be with. However, best practice is to remove the volume you're adding, it's a negligible loss

I am An 😮 👏👏👏👏 New Girl question.....what do u mean AND DONT FORGET TOO ADD WHAT U TOOL? THANKS
@vet-techbites222 жыл бұрын
Hello! Whenever we are adding dextrose to IVF, we have to first remove the amount that we are going to be adding. If you think about it, if we just added 50-100mL of dextrose, then there would be 1,050-1,100mL in the bag, not 1L, so it throws the ratio off. So, before we add it, we first remove that amount to keep the total volume the same :)
