Lace for the vestments was a sign of the women’s love of their God. Their handiwork was their labors, their talent put to the priests,etc.welfare and honoring their consecration to God as extraordinary and holy. I expect the loss of such garments deflated the priests’ solumn preparation and prayers before Masses.

Suggest avoiding overconfidence and underestimating the cunning of the enemies of the Church; the point was to fundamentally change the ecclesiology of the Church, not any particular teaching. Not clear that will not yet happen. Ain’t over yet.
