Fun fact (and somebody correct me if I'm wrong) Joakim said on the history channel about this song; when Sabaton perform this song in Germany, at times they change the lyrics into "one more beer", unless my memory totally fails me. So; "one more beer, as we all stand united. All togeter; One More Beer!"

Gott Mit Uns is actually German, not Swedish, but the Swedish army used it as their battle cry. Gott Mit Uns means God (is) With Us.

Nah, it's both Swedish and German, with slightly different meaning. German -> God (is) with us Swedish -> Good my part(-take)

Most of the swedish officers and the King spoke german as main language aswell as all the german troops under his command which in some battle was more than the swedish ( half of the swedish troops also was from present day Finland or Estonia or from german parts of the swedish empire anyway thus may not be speaking swedish anyway. ) so its nothing strange to use a german war cry then.

@@KimFareseed Gott = "Good", not "god" mitt = my/mine, not "with" uns = ounce. Swedish military even today uses the expression "mitt åt" which means "my bad". "mitt uns" is related to this expression and means "my turn to do my part" which is an answer to the call of duty.

Gott mit uns means God is with us. The Swedish army at the time was very patriotic and har a very strong religious belief. One could say that they where fanatics of sorts. They believed that God would shelter them from the enemies bullets and if they did die anyway they would join him in heaven. Thats what made them so hard to defeat.

I can relate to facing an enemy not afraid to die and it is a little intimidating to face. Even the meaning has a powerful boost behind it because hope and belief in a time like that seems to be all there can be 🤔🤔

From Sabaton’s site: Led by Gustavus Adolphus, the Swedish army advanced through Germany like a swarm of locusts, leaving a devastated countryside in their wake. Their opposition, the Catholic League and the Habsburg Imperial Army did their best to offer resistance. The two sides met on 7th September 1631 on an open field near the village of Breitenfeld, outside Leipzig and the ensuing battle became the biggest of the Thirty Years War. Gustavus Adolphus and the Swedish army, with Saxon reinforcements, faced the Imperial army under the command of General Tilly. The Swedes went into battle under the war cry “Gott mit uns”, in English “God with us”. (this motto would subsequently be used by the Prussian army and later by German forces during WWI & the Wehrmacht during WW2, when the motto was embossed on the soldiers’ belt buckles). After seven hours of battle, the Swedish-Saxon army were victorious, thanks to their exceptional discipline, great mobility and superior firepower. Twelve thousand men lay dead on the battlefield. The victory at Breitenfeld was the height of Gustavus Adolphus’ military career but his victory march continued. Nuremberg, Frankfurt am Main and Munich were conquered. He gained a reputation for being undefeatable but did not live long enough to realise his dream of becoming Holy Roman Emperor. The following year, on 6th November 1632, he fell in battle outside the city of Lützen in eastern Germany but the war continued.

Yeah Raubtier is even more war than Sabaton, if I remember correct the singer is an officer in the swedish army also. Acting Panzer, or Panzarmarsch is great songs. Make sure to go for english subs.

The whole album more or less reflects the ensuing chasm between Catholics and Protestants during that time, while also highlighting Carolus' ascent and descent of power. Protestants thought that they were bringing freedom, while Catholics thought that they were just heretics. I believe in the song The Lion from the North there is a line : "The power of Rome won't prevail, See the Catholics shiver and shake". And in the Carolus Rex song "Crowned by god not by the church" showing a side peek into Carolus' view. As an unbiased(being an atheist), I cannnot say which side was right or wrong, but the english version of the song A Lifetime at War says it right in the lines "When they face death, they are all alike. No right or wrong, rich or poor. No matter who they served before. Good or bad they are all the same. Rest side by side now". That's why this album has always been on my top favorites. The amazing sound and guitar solos also help :P

This is part of the 30 year old war story witch sabaton makes many songs about. I havent read up what Got mit uns meens but id guess God be with us? or gods will. Sweden history is very bloody, we might be a "neutral" and diplomatic country today but its coz we have seen what costs to a country endless wars is.

It's not such a well known song but if you could get the boys together and listen to it that would be epic. I am talking about the Ballad of the Bull. It's about an Australian frontline medic that saved the lives of 12 american soldiers during a WWII battle in New Guinea while under fire. It's a slow song, a different style but such an emotional trip.
