This is easily one of the best Sabaton songs out there, both lyrically and musically. So powerful and distinct from everything else.

the story and history here is one that stayed with me the most. the Turkish presidents statement said in short. To the mothers who's sons wil not come home. as they have fallen and lost their lives on our land they have now become our sons as well. They will rest forever on friendly grounds.

“Those heroes that shed their blood, and lost their lives. You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore, rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours, you, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears, your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace, after having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.” I'll admit, the first time I read this message from Mustafa Ataturk (the father of modern Turkey) about the ANZAC soldiers who gave their lives at Gallipoli, I teared up a bit. Such strong words, the sacrifice of both the Turkish and the Australian/New Zealander soldiers was not in vain, and they will be forever be remembered.

The battle of Gallipoli, a battle where thousands of Anzac soldiers died fighting a foe that was so dug in that five minutes into the battle they nearly lost the entire force that had landed, there is a song depicting the battle of Gallipoli in Australia called, 'The Band Played Waltzing Matilda,' I heavily suggest it. A campaign that was meant to take the Turks out of the war by landing in the Dardanelles, which were close to Constantinople Turned into a huge slug fest at the beaches of Gallipoli where the Aussies and the New Zealander's were digging into with artillery pounding their positions every few minutes, while they were waiting for the much more numerous English and French armies to land and get them out of the hell they were stuck in. Male's from the age bracket of 11-48 years old died on the beaches of Gallipoli, and there only estimates available for the casualty counts. A plan introduced by the head of Navy at the time, Winston Churchill, was responsible for one of the greatest Debacle's in all of history, and we Australians paid the price in blood waiting for the order to retreat or for reinforcements to come, the order didn't come for months and the reinforcements sent, were more Aussie and New Zealander children to go through the meat grinder.

One of the few Sabaton songs that hits with an emotional gut punch, along with Purple Heart and A Lifetime of War. All send different messages that intertwine, being that War is nothing to celebrate, and not to forget those who've lost their lives. Not one to generally shed tears but Purple Heart hit me the hardest

I know the basic outline of what happened at Gallipoli, but for some strange reason, I don't remember having seen the plaque that shows up @ 7:23 with the quote from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (the first prime minister of modern-day Turkey). Powerful stuff indeed.

What made this song sad for me is that Joakim says boys not men
@OnyxANZ Жыл бұрын
I know I'm 2 years late, but that's because they were boys. The ANZAC nations were still young and desperate to prove themselves. Many teenagers enlisted, as young as 12 years old, and they were sent to that beach just to die.

This is one of the Sabaton songs with more symphonic metal vibe, keyboard is that main instrument here. Definitely one of their most powerful songs, those ignorants whom said Sabaton is glorifying war, they should check out this song. They know how to make deep antiwar songs

@@v3tReacts Thats the one I usually watch when I play it on youtube, and it's just battle scenes from a movie, not anything from the official music video I think. It's clear it's not actually 720p even though it's uploaded as it, but the quality is good enough in my opinion.
