Let me compliment you on you videos. I'm a Vietnam veteran, and only got a disability rating 8 months ago. I've been learning how to use VA by "trial and error." Piles of mail from VA, websites, etc. are not always that helpful, and it is a lot to plow through. It seems maneuvering the VA bureaucracy is not always easy! Keep making short, simple, "how to" short videos that focus on a particular VA topic and your experience. No one provides any "orientation" to using VA health care and your videos are just what is needed. Thanks.

Just some further clarification on what was said in the video, Only veterans that are rated disabled at 100%PT can see the ER at no charge for anything when calling that number. Veterans who are NOT disbled rated by the VA or not 100% can ONLY see the ER for service connected issues IF the VA medical center is too far per their requirements or only life-threatening issues deemed by the VA on a case by case for the VA to pick up the bill. Not any veteran can use the ER. You also have to have been seen at the VA within the last 2 years. 100%PT vets can see a private ER for any condition at any time but the 72 hour rule still applies. Also, vetetans are ONLY allotted 3 visits per year at in network only urgent care locations unless that has changed.

So what if your local VA doesn’t offer urgent care, And they will not authorize you to go to the two civilian urgent cares in town?

Look up which urgent care centers are covered here: www.va.gov/find-locations/ Under facility type, select "Urgent Care"

It's almost as if I didn't need insurance through my work anymore.
@thevocalveteran5 ай бұрын
You don't technically need other insurance, although I like to keep my civilian insurance as backup in case VA is dragging their feet on approving things I need (for some reason physical therapy approvals seem to take forever here!)

In order to use urgent care , can it be for anything or just for what your disability rating is for.

Anything!

The VA sucks . Stay away as long as you can. The "doctors" have to send you to private civilian doctors for anything serious and for minor medical situations they suck at it . I was prescribed gabapentin 100mg for pain. My dog was prescribed the same gabapentin but his is for 600mg. Animals get better care from veterinarians than we get from VA doctors .

That's just your experience. You can't say VA sucks in general. I'm in Oregon, and I receive excellent care from the VA. No complaints. The same can be said for doctors on both sides. You get some good ones and you get some bad ones. And this is coming from a combat veteran rated 70% for PTSD.
