You chose it, we viewed it. “Full Metal Jacket” was at the top of our list, especially with the Marine Birthday having just passed.
What’s the most iconic movie for each branch of service?
Richard Ryan is back with former Marine Scout Sniper Logan Stark and former Army Ranger Mat Best to react to some military classics... Richard also threw in a couple Marine recruiting commercials that might make you double take.

Yeah, for real. Interesting fact about producing this commercial -- they initially were going to get Tom Hanks to play the role of the lava monster, but Hanks' schedule didn't line up quite right. I saw We Were Soldiers the night it came out. I thought it was a great movie (still do). As the credits rolled and lights came on, an elderly gentleman behind me stood up, looked at his wife and said "they finally got it right. that's how it was". And he was crying. It's been almost 20 years, but I'll never forget the look on that man's face.

Fun Fact: The reason gunny makes such a good drill sergeant is because he was one. In fact that is how he got the part in full metal jacket. He was on set as an adviser. And while demonstrating it for everyone (to show the actor that had the part how to do it) the director saw how he looked on camera (he had been watching him do it in person but after the third or fourth time had a look at it through the camera and was like "this is what I have been looking for") and gave him the part and thus his acting career was born.
