Who knows where the term "scare strap" comes from? I talk about it at 23:49
@Wannabearborist12 күн бұрын
I think it might have to do with the fact that this is the closest thing to your chainsaw and if you thus cut it your second tie in (which you hopefully have) is what will have to save you. Thus that’s pretty scary. I don’t know though, that’s just purely my unprofessional opinion.

The only guy that started teaching me had a 17 ton 75ft mantex crane gave me 150ft of Sampson true blue an old weaver saddle with the two d rings…I was only allowed one knot which was a taut line hitch. He said all ya need is a rope you don’t need no scare strap 😂😂 so id tie into the crane set my riggin repel down take pull the end of my rope up retie in an make my cut… i did finally have a fit one day an bought a “scare strap” he always told me i wasn’t a real climber cause I couldn’t feel climb to the top with just spike an tie in….it was so freakin hard to balance an make crane cuts with only a rope… an them saddles sucked…. Makes me appreciate all my nice new gear I’ll tell ya that bud

I don't like the weather there. It's supposed to be 3 degrees in the morning. 🥶 The next day it could be 60!

Today I was wishing you guys were closer. Remember that huge storm I mentioned that we had in Alaska on Sunday? Apparently it DID weaken one of our trees. It fell so slowly that nobody noticed until earlier this afternoon I looked up and it was leaning on the fence and only a couple inches away from my neighbor's garage. He said he noticed it around the same time. He and my husband plan on cutting it tomorrow despite me saying "I think we should call a professional". Yikes LOL
@VeteranTreeService11 күн бұрын
So how did the tree cutting go?
@earndoggy11 күн бұрын
@@VeteranTreeService surprisingly well! Between the two of them they got it cut up into manageable pieces. Luckily it was far enough down that no ladders were needed. Minimal damage to the fence and none to the garage roof! Whew!

Hi Tim, very interesting to see how the first one barber chaired by the back cut only!!! Never heard the term scare strap... in germany the positioning Lanyard is called "short safety line" or "holdind line"

I love watching you go straight to the cut but I wonder in some of the films that you do coming up if you would show a little bit more of a realistic time frame of how long it takes to get into position tied in and make the cut without fast forwarding straight to the cut just curious because I like to see the setup too

Dude it's entertaining to see you see do unsafe things and I appreciate that you explain why what you just did is dangerous so we can all learn, but NGL, I fear one day you will get hurt and I don't want that 😬

Great video as always brother. A lot of great climbing and videography all in one. When do you officially exit the Air Force? I imagine your business will only get even better afterwards

The capital. Jefferson City. I left there at 18 years old when I joined the Air Force. That was 20 years ago. Sheesh, that went by fast. 😅

it’s scared strap: not scare strap.. that term “scared strap” has been around forever. in the early 90’s, in colorado, dudes would only climb with their main tie-in and would never usually use a lanyard (aka: scared strap), and if you ever had to use a “lanyard” while climbing, they’d considered you scared of the tree, cause you had to break out your “scared strap” in order to feel safe in the tree. that’s why the old timers called it a “scared strap”. *note: first hand knowledge.* 😆

bro i’ve never just flopped branches on stuff like you did w that shed 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I know they aren’t hot lava it’s simply looks for the homeowner , doesn’t matter if there’s no damage just be better ! customers don’t wanna see that! all you had to do was make a notch and handsaw it or make a snap cut bro, or take your spikes off and limb walk out there further…
