When I was 14 we lived a few houses down from our vet, whom my father called St. Frances. How he kept his practice going or even red himself is still a mystery…he took in patients whose owners couldn’t pay, strays, etc. He saw how interested I was, so that summer he had me come in as his “assistant.” I’m now 71 and still clearly remember that wonderful experience. He showed me the happy and the sad, including helping him euthanize a very sick cat. Amazing person…so kind.

You are so lucky to have such wonderful memories. I just turned 60 and I did a turn at a local stable for a couple of summers when I was about 15 and it really taught me how to look after animals, both big (like those horses) and little (like kittens and chickens). It really stuck with me how to respect both the animals and the people who love them. We might be older, but we carry those nostalgic moments with us forever. It is really a shame how many kids are so lost in their phones that they don't know how to live in the fresh air. Let's hope more kids get these experiences!

Yall are the first all Black Veterinary Hospital I have ever seen. Im 65 and retired from 40+ years as a professional groomer, handler, rescuer, etc. I love the vibe in your staff and hospital. And I love that you give these amazing experiences for kids. I hung out at our local vet clinic every second I could growing up.

I think the hugs are just as appropriate and necessary as the medicine and wish more medical professionals understood the healing power of chemical touch receptors/messengers. These guys are such compassionate and amazing doctors!

These adorable rescue kittens might be wobbly, but their cuteness is off the charts! Who knew hydration could be such a splashy adventure? Tune in to see how even the wobbliest can find their stride with a little TLC and a dash of humor!

That is so awesome that you bring those children in to explain what you do. We need this done for all jobs! Our children need to be exposed to all different areas of life. Our children are the most important part of our lives and we only get one chance per child to get it right! Fantastic idea guys!! Thank you!!😊

😊I so agree. Many don't get a chance to see the "real" job whether vet, human doctor, nurses, even teachers until into a program then when realize it is more than playing with animals, giving meds, reading a book, etc they may have already gone through much of their schooling just to find they may not like or able to handle the career they first thought they wanted.

Don’t you love when people say, my pet means so much to me yet they let a tumor grow to the size of a football before taking him to the vet.
@candilynnn Жыл бұрын
Sometimes we don't know the entire story. For example I took care of a woman who her ESA dog was pretty much her only family. Of course on social security she could only go to the subsidized vet clinic ( which we need more of). He had a lump and the one vet said it felt like a lipoma and since it was small and not blocking anything just to let it be. It grew and the vet said again lipomas don't need to be removed and if she really wanted it removed she would need to go elsewhere. The one thing about many of these vet shows is they don't always show the times when they tell a client they won't do something because they know for example the person or family doesn't have $8,000 or a caring vet may just come right out and say we can do this for this amount but it may give you a few months more not years. There is a lot of truly loving pet parents that will do mostly anything for their pets but they are reluctant to go to the vet more than their yearly checks because of past experiences or it does become a matter of being declined. Sadly just like much of our human medical care. It does bother me yes when someone obviously spent a lot on their pet, maybe even has cute clothes and toys for them , says they are their everything but won't get more than vaccinations at a vet when they can afford it.

You never feed your reptile bugs from the bait store. Also you should stay away from crickets because of this reason they have strong mandibles and will not hesitate to bite your pet they even eat eachother stick to dubia roaches or red runners occasionlly superworms and mealworms. Not anesthetizing the gecko or any reptile or bird is the correct option if you can help it and they tend to go into brumation and fall into such a deep sleep that they die.
