Hi Mark, my partner is a Filipina! Suggestion for an interesting VFR flight is a twin engine flight from Amanpulo lounge Soriano Hangar RPLL to Amanpulo hotel Pamlican Island south of Manila! The flight takes about 75 mins and on arrival you get a sense of sheer luxury and seclusion which comes at huge expense IRL. Amazing that the small island and hotel’s concrete airport are faithfully replicated in MSFS

Good to know the VFR map is now actually useful. One thing needing still to be addressed is the frame rate drop when you pop it or any panel out to another display. For me, it cuts the fps in half. I'm using a 2060 super. I tried using DX 12, and it made no difference.

@Mark, thanks for the video. Yes, it would be really nice to be able to edit the flight plan within the VFR map itself. Another useful feature that could be introduced within the VFR map is the ability to teleport (at a selected altitude, heading and air speed) to another place during a flight.

The new G1000 you can enter flight plans in and push them to the ATC, which I believe will then appear on the VFR map.

The VFR map certainly looks more useful than it was, but I still prefer using the Sky4Sim Pad - it has all the information I need and allows me to view it in a browser on my mobile phone.

I was also a pilot (1986 to 2000). I had my own little plane as well, a Grumman American AA-1B (2 Seater Trainer) for 10 years. I have an old Intel I7 3770K CPU with a 2060 Super, playing at 1080p, which is quite acceptable except in large airports. On the verge of upgrading to AND 5600X or 5800X3D in the near future. I am not interested in VR for the moment, but that may come later, but would need to get a faster video card for sure.

World scale should really be changed to IPD. If users had a way to directly enter their measured IPD, they could pretty much guarantee that the the world is correctly scaled.

My request for VFR Map feature would be detailed place names, as a direct bing map would be nice, I am on xbox, so unable to connect to little nav map etc, and spend a lot of time trying to figure out where specifically i am. this would also let me turn off the ugly in flight points showing landmarks etc which messes my immersion. Flight plan edit would be amazing, or imagine plates/charts when you click a runway.

I realize that this is well after this video, and presumably the changes in the VFR map, were introduced, but I still do not have this in my installation of FS2020. I still have the old map which has no interactivity at all. How did my installation manage to miss out on what apparently was added during a mandatory update which I must have gotten - it won't let you run the sim unless you do each of the updates!

Thanks for the vid. In my opinion, a larger world scale seems a little more realistic, especially the distance from your eyes to the rudder pedals. It also makes things in the cockpit a little sharper. Thoughts?

Hi Mark, thanks for reply but I nave sim update 10 and WI 11 installed and although I can bring up the VFR Map when I left click on an airport nothing happens also search bar is not appearing in VFR Map panel and it won’t resize to anything but default size? Charlie

Check the profile used for your mouse. Try with default etc. also if no luck experiment with interaction changing from lock to legacy….gen options…accessibility

Great explanation Mark! Are you running windows 11 22h2 ? I am still having issues with stuttering and low frame rates even with newest Nvidia and Microsoft drivers. I Have since went back to 21H2 and everything is fine again. If you are running 22h2 let me know what you did to stop stuttering and lower frame rates! Thanks so much!

No your right, there is a loss of frame rates, for me around 5 to6

Great video as always. Unfortunately nothing much works in the VFR map for me. I assume I have made some stupid mistake but... I was using DX12 so I changed back to DX11. No difference. I am on the latest Nvidia driver which works fine for me. On the VFR map, nothing is clickable, the map initially shows very few airports (I have tried different planes and different airports but I am now at KSEA and that area has many many airfields. It will only zoom out a little even with GPS mode off and is generally useless. I realize this is not MS help but I know you have an instinct for things so I thought I would tell you about it before going to MS or their user forum. Any ideas? Everything else in MSFS is currently AOK. I have rebooted etc. Michael

I was also frustrated by how limited zoom-out was. Older FS editions could zoom to the the whole continent, couldn't they? It's been a while since I've played FSX.

Not sure what the problem is….suggest go to control options and change mouse config to default and see if this helps. Also under gen options/assessability change interaction method for mouse lock/legacy.

The new VFR map is better, but still far from what anyone would realistically want to use. SkyVector and other actual VFR maps at least show... visual references. I am sure the map in FSX was better. Something like Infinite flight on mobile has a more functional map!
