Why is every engineering disaster preceded by "And due to someone else messing up, we had to cram twice as many people in."
@STICKGUYMB4 ай бұрын
Because time is money, which means cutting corners instead of accepting a small loss, sadly.
@clockwork34944 ай бұрын
Unfortunate but most companies value money more than anything, sadly despite these occurrences not much has truly changed in todays society either. It saddens me too, because no one could've predicted this accident except for the George Chadwick and the superiors who were notified, all the passengers and even possibly the crew of the engine were none the wiser to what was about to happen. The ultimate irony is the losses in wrecks like this often greatly exceed that of the profits they would've made if nothing went wrong, because of their greed for more money they took a poorly placed gamble and now many people suffer alongside the company's profits and repuation.

If the other company had paid their employees what they were worth, the Broker may not have even left the tracks that night. It always takes a chain of critical events to lead up to a disaster such as this, I suppose. No one thing is responsible, but one or maybe two corporations most often are.

At 5:17, for anyone wondering the short answer, the engineer was aware of the work on the bridge but the company didn't have a policy about posting anything along the rails to warn trains. Leading up to the accident there was a gradient and the engineer had opened the throttle to tackle it.

The steam exhaust sounds are of by quite a bit. You should hear the exhaust four times per revolution. For slow moving it was too fast, and for fast moving too slow. But that is just railroader details. Other than that the visuals are perfect! You even included some small details on both the cars and the loco! Great Work! Edit: My bad. One time it was the compressor.

Have you all noticed that its usually the tender that gives way first in these types of incidence?
@GeneralLiuofBoston19114 ай бұрын
Old tender. There's supposed to be a mechanism designed to prevent issues like water from sloshing around.
@tahornaday99614 ай бұрын
@@GeneralLiuofBoston1911 Yes, kinda like how tankers have panels built into their structure, called Porous baffles. They helped stabilize liquid.
@sooline38544 ай бұрын
@@GeneralLiuofBoston1911 That's not what caused this, though. That style of tender DID have baffles. it was poor maintenance and the fact the PRR didn't have a signal light out there to warn of the upcoming construction site and temporary track.

@roberthuron91604 ай бұрын
Repeat; the engineer was looking for a lantern signal,that would denote the work sight! That was done from the Jersey Central rulebook,the PRR,had no equivalent! Add the bad weather and low visibility,it was sort of inevitable! See Shaw's book on railroad accidents,as it has the ICC accident report,and aftermath! Great animation and had some data,that I didn't know! Thank you 😇 😊!
