VFX Foam EPS Foam and VFX Tough Coat Coating Impact Resistance Test

This is an Alien Xenomorph head piece we routed out of High Density Foam. We coated the foam prop with a quick pass of our VFX Tough Coat coating and then took a hammer to it. This shows the impact resistance of the coating and why we apply it to certain foam projects. The coating makes the props and foam shapes last a very long time.

Assuming that the hammer is not itself made of polyurea coated foam, this is a very impressive demo.

Thanks utubewillyman. While we understand that this isn't an "ASTM certified" method for testing nor a very scientific approach, we feel it shows the capabilities of the coating. The hammer is not coated and is a hammer someone could buy at a local hardware store.

where can the coating be bought? is it a spray or something else?

@SERDAROTmkd - It's a proprietary coating we use that's similar to the coating you see in the backs of pickup trucks that have the bed coated with Line-X or Rhinoliner. This is something that requires specialized equipment in order to mix the two components and get it viscous enough to spray.

Not clear from this answer if it can be bought - is it only used in house on your own projects?

@Derek Noon - We're not offering it to the public just yet but hopefully soon. We're working on a fire retardant version that can be brushed onto surfaces including EPS Foam that comes in much smaller quantities. This should allow us to sell a much more cost-effective solution since customers won't need to purchase the specialized equipment to pump it out of 55 gallon drums. We'll make sure to post up an update on this page and on our channel once testing has been completed.
