I think I did the calc correctly and that double protect from Whimsicott was critical to KOing the Terapagos with Discharge. It deals roughly 85-100% against Terapagos single target, but would only do 64-75% double target, which wouldn't be enough to KO Terapagos (it's HP looks roughly around 80%). The EVs may be non-standard, as they usually are, but he would likely still need the double protect unless the Terapagos is 0 HP, 0 SpDef, in which case there is just over a 40% chance to KO with double target. Edit: Turns out I misunderstood how spread moves work in VGC. Discharge will deal reduced damage if there are 2 or more targets, regardless of whether any of them protect or not. So the second protect wasn't important - Miraidon still KO'd Terapagos with the reduced damage. The Terapagos had very little bulk it seems, but the roll was still in Terapagos' favour.

We saw Terapagos' HP was 186 out of 238 (so 20 HP EV). Assuming Miraidon was running max Sp.Atk, and Terapagos didn't have Sp.Def EV, it had a 50% chance of KO-ing. 252 SpA Choice Specs Hadron Engine Tera Electric Miraidon Discharge vs. 20 HP / 0 SpD Terapagos-Stellar in Electric Terrain: 170-200 (71.4 - 84%)

The first protect was a misplay. The 2nd protect was actually significant because had Terapagos lived discharge, whimsicott could win the game with a moonblast the following turn.

Whimsicott used a status move, thunderclap only works if you use a attacking move. It work just like sucker punch, it will fail if the opponent doesn’t attack.
