My Rebbe, Reb Shlomo Friefeld, was saying this when I first came to Yeshiva 38 years ago. I believed him then, followed him then, and follow him now. Chazzarah is not a big chiddush to the World. it is a Chiddush to those who have never experienced the joy and satisfaction of owning their Torah. You want to possess your inheritance, you have to make a conscious effort to use the formula that has worked for generations. This was a good presentation; I hope it touches the hearts of our youths and the hearts of their rebbes to inculcate in their students the direch HaTorah, Limud HaTorah, Ahavas HaTorah, and ultimately keeyum HaTorah.

I want to know Gemara. Is it hard to learn it? Is the Gemara laws mandatory, commentary, or both?

The Gemara is the Talmud... Well it is Mandatory Commentary.. Without It We would be Unable to determine any laws from the actual Bible.Since the Talmud delves into every Law how Its Practiced & all the specifications to determine the actual Usage of These Laws. Since It was translated (by the Sage's of ancient Babylon) you can learn the Talmud if you choose.
