In a mayday relay situation you wouldn't mention your MMSI, though, according to the current radio regulations from ITU WRC-07.

How do you go about downgrading from mayday to pan-pan? That bit isn't explained apart from saying you can at the very beginning.

Hi There - if you wish to downgrade the emergency just speak with the Coastguard via Ch16 and let them know you wish to downgrade. It depends on the situation so there isn't really a process to follow and of course rescue assets will likely have already been tasked to you so the coastguard will make any decisions about severity and response. Hope that helps :-)

That really depends on what the situation is - is it certainly one of the supplementary questions that the Coastguard will ask you but it is not required for a Mayday message. It is very useful to add it into the Pan Pan call if you are looking for a tow.
