Here's a little hint for those of you who ARE working with VHS-C format tapes: Some of those tapes have a little switch on the front-left side. Make sure that the switch is set to "save." That enables write protection, which is the equivalent of breaking the security tabs off the bigger VHS tapes.

I just noticed that.... A green sliding switch.... " record / on-off"... I slid it to 'off'. ( I JUST started to 'Dub' my VHS-C tapes and ..I HAVE THE SAME SANYO !!

A VHS-C will only record 30 minutes in SP mode, so that tape must have been recorded in LP or EP mode. I picked up my Magnavox combo recorder at a thrift store a few months ago, but still haven't used it to dub from VHS, as I'm more familiar with my Panasonic and Philips DVD recorders. The menu structure on this looks identical to my Philips, and it even includes the "empty title" after finalizing. Thank you for the Magnavox tutorial.
@dahdigital14 жыл бұрын
ThriftyAV, yes i guess "obviously" some vhs-c camcorders could record at LP or EP speed. Can you confirm that there are no longer any combo recorders available New.

I have a question. I have a vhs-c tape and player adapter similar to yours however every time my tape is around 1/2 way through it is choppy video or chatters. Why does this happen? It does not happen at beginning just half way.
@dahdigital12 жыл бұрын
Randy, over time the environment they were stored in may have caused the problem. Your carrier cassette may not be so good. I have fought many of the vhs-c tapes. Try a new cassette or perhaps fast forward the tapes back all the way and rewind a couple of times. There is no fits all answer for these.

Doesn't the dvd recorder automatically start recording when it sees a picture and stop when it doesn't? I have a standalone DVD recorder that works this way, and it saves you from having to cue the tape at the beginning. In my case I just hit record on the DVD machine, play on the vhs one and the recorder will wait until there's a picture to start recording and pause the recording when the picture goes away (eg at end of the tape) .
@dahdigital14 жыл бұрын
Enzo Perruccio, my combo recorder won't do that, however I have a multifunction DVD recorder that can be set up to do that, but even at that; sometimes it goofs up!
@enzoperruccio4 жыл бұрын
@@dahdigital1 Oh, yeah. I've had some cases where my recorder misteriously stopped recording because it thought there was no image when I could clearly see it haha. I can't find an option to turn it off though.

Anthony, are you still around? You are a 'life saver" !! I bought ( a year ago) a good-used identical Sanyo as you are using!! ( 2 questions ).... #1: I wish you would show a close-up of which buttons you are using on the remote when doing the final finishing, and a closer view on the monitor screen. #2: My Sony DVD remote, after Finalized & playing on my regular TV.... When I select 'play', the screen on my TV shows " unable to perform "....... Then I selected on remote, " OK " or " Enter", ..THEN the DVD starts playing ..... ( Is there a work-around" to that? ) Thanks, again, Peter ( Florida)

Thanks for your question. I made the video years ago, #1 I have got to think about this if I can remember all the steps or make a new video short. #2 I dont know of a work around for that.

After I write to the disc, nothing pops up. I noticed that on your screen, there is the play icon on the button left. For me, it goes blank and then has the pause icon. Do you know what the issue is? The disc plays in the VHS DVD Recorder that it was recorded on, but will not work on anything else because nothing comes up after the “Writing to disc” screen. All I get is a blank screen. Could you explain what I’m doing wrong Thanks

As far as I understand all output from combo recorder is analogue. some combo recorders may have s-video out but that is still analogue. I would suspect very little difference (minimal) if any difference inquality.

Be very careful when doing this process because some of the adapters can depress the record lockout switch in the VCR. If you press the wrong button, even with the tape write-protected (that is if the switch on the VHS-C cartridge is set to save or the write tab broken off of the cartridge), you can still tape over it. I tried to break the tab off of one of my adapters, but it was made of metal, which doesn't break that easily, unlike plastic, which is easier to break off any VHS tape.

RJN0607, Thanks for this information, I didn't know about that. I will try and watch out for that from now on.

Hello. I have a big mess on my hands. I have old tapes. Some broke when I tried to play them. They caught on something at the back of the machine. I got them out but they need to be repaired before I can play them in a better machine. Also there are parts of the tapes that I want to omit...then go to the next part that I want to keep and string along the different scenes like that. So, I have to figure out how to: 1. Repair broken tapes. 2. Edit the tapes so I can transfer only what I want. Should I send them off and have them put on CD’s as is? Once they are on the CD’s, can I edit them there. Do you do any work like this? I could send them to you if you do. I’m totally lost. Would appreciate your help. Thanks so much.

DMT CM9035, Sorry, I can't do restoration. There are probably commercial shops that do restoration, my guess is that , that would cost a fortune. Editing Video tape using a tape player to play back the tape, stopping and starting the tape would be much more demanding on the video tape then just playing tape using the Vcr or any tape player.I would, as you suggest send them off and have them put on DVD's. Once you get the DVD's back if you have video editing software you could have your editing software copy the DVD to your video editor where you could edit the video and make your own new DVD with just what you want on them. My transfer work that I do in my home studio is geared to local people who can bring me the work and come back and pick up their job. Thanks, I hope I was helpful

Can you do a video on how to convert Mini DV to DVD? I have tons of Mini DV's that need to be converted to DVD and a transfer service is hundreds for the amount of Mini DV's I have. My camcorder works fine when recording but only displays a blue screen when trying to play back. So if there is a way to convert them without a camcorder that would be amazing! But if it is required then I will buy one to convert it.

Yo What's Poppin, Thank you for your comment. I have done a little checking and on Ebay there are mini DV decks, looks like in the $400 dollar range. I also found smaller mini DV player recorders in the $200 range. And of course many, mini DV cameras ranging in price $100 dollars and less. of course all all of these are used! Personally I would go with the camera.

Almost all major studio VHS titles since the mid-1980s are encoded with Macrovision copy protection. And all consumer DVD recorders, including combo units, will detect this copy protection and prevent recording of the source material. Copyright law allows to you make backup of videos that you have purchased, but you will not be able to use a combo recorder to do this. In my video archive, you can find a few videos about devices that filter out Macrovision, to allow recording, but you will need separate components, as the video signal must be fed through the filter. Also, most computer video capture devices do not disable based on Macrovision.
