VHS Mall Walking : Tri-County, Mall St. Matthews, Green Tree : Filmed on $35 GoPro (No Voiceover)

Story time! Back in 2019, before I picked up the equipment that I use to film now, I tried to film a handful of places using a bootleg GoPro...

It cost around £25, or $35, and the footage it put out was, shall we say…not the greatest; any time I was moving around, everything was jumpy as hell. Which isn’t that useful when you’re trying to film yourself walking around a mall.
I tried messing around with all sorts of different filters etc., and ultimately found that some of the footage looked passable with some distortion and VHS grain. I wish there was more footage of malls in the ‘80s and ‘90s recorded on VHS, because it’s such a cool aesthetic, so this is a brief homage to that.
The result is not going to win any awards, and it makes me glad I upgraded to an actual GoPro, but it’s kinda fun. One day I hope to film some malls with an actual vintage VHS camera!

Louisville / Southern Indiana native here. Greentree is far from a dead mall, by any stretch. Sears did close, but the mall has always been, and remains popular. As far as Mall St. Matthews goes, well... it's sorta slow in the video, but like... did they film in the morning or afternoon on a weekday? That's kinda what it looks like.

I live down the street from mall at. Matthews and it's far from dead especially on the weekends and around the holidays the traffic it causes is a nightmare lol. I'm glad it still seems to be doing well since malls are disappearing everywhere these days

St matts mall is usually pretty busy Friday night's and the weekends. They hurt themselves though since the mall closes at 8pm each night

8pm?? Wow, that's early. Honestly, I really loved MSM - hope to check out all three of these malls and film something more substantial next time I'm over in the US.

Personally I think it kinda helps them. Louisvilles been seeing a lot of crime the past few years, so I feel like if it were open until say 10 pm, we would hear more about shootings and stuff. Then it would get a reputation for being dangerous and ghetto, and they would become history. There’s been a lot of malls that have died because the crime got too bad

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot out there - I guess it's too thriving for most of the usual dead malls crew - which amazes me. It's such a beautiful spot, and I hope to get back out there.
