You know what’s the worst part about that fact one? The low creepy tone that plays over the fact logo as the narrator explains about copyright. That evil hum just makes it seem that something scary is about to appear

It is really weird how unintentionally chilling a VHS ident can be to a child. I used to turn the TV down when the Magician Mickey bumpers played during a Disney VHS opening.

I'm a 1998 baby and was absolutely terrified of the BBC video logo, so much so that my parents eventually had to start VHSs for me while I hid in the other room because I kept having nightmares about it 😅 its so interesting seeing videos like this now and the rise in analogue horror considering how odd people thought it was at the time, you've got to wonder what it is that scared us all so much about home video

The VCI and BBC logo never scared me but the anti-piracy one frightened terrified me as a kid

That VCI intro was on some of my Thomas the Tank Engine VHS tapes as a kid, and I loved it because of the association. Great video though

You can't beat the ident jingle for Yorkshire Television during the 70's for a bit of scary. It just jumps out at you without any warning, and sounds angry at something you did wrong, as it goes, 'DAH-DA-DA-DA-DAHHHHHH!!'

I associated these logos with the shows I used to watch: VCI = Thomas the Tank Engine BBC Video = Pingu

I'm from the US, so the BBC logo wasn't on a lot of what I watched, but I recognized the music almost immediately. I don't remember what I did see that logo on as a kid, but I do remember loving the music. I loved somber, dramatic, mysterious tunes when I was young. Still do. I think I probably imagined a dramatic scene in a film with someone standing on the edge of a cliff with the wind in their hair, gazing solemnly into the middle distance...

The VHS logos that scared me were Palace Video (Haunted Castle), Castle Vision (the 1st one), BBC Video (the 1st one with 1984 -88 music), Bumper Films (the 2nd one (Fireman Sam)), Guild Home Video (the 2nd one), The Viacom "wigga-wigga" Logo & Tempo Video (the 1st one).

I think the VCI logo is more epic than creepy, it almost feels like a super hero movie introduction, I don’t know, it’s probably just me 03:07 Piracy is no party. But in all seriousness, while I understand the message they’re trying to send, but I feel like this is a bit extreme, especially for VHS tapes geared towards younger audiences

the scariest one by far for me was the 1988 Aadman ident that was on all the wallace and gromit tapes!!

These examples being from the 90's when I was in my late teens to early twenties, didn't scare me, obviously, but I can understand why they would to somebody much younger. There's something "cold" to them, isn't there? Something totally unemotional. As for me: My childhood fears are heavily tied to the ATV logo from the 70's and early 80's, that looked a bit like a face and I swore was haunting me, and that bloody test card clown.

The BBC one from 1990's (which is in the intro) scared me shitless as a kid. I'm a 2002 baby & it was on a lot of old VHS Tapes I had back then.

There was an older VCI logo that had a TV coming across the screen and the music behind it was so scary for me as a kid

So I wasn't the only one that was scared of these as a kid? Huh, good to know. Okay there is two other ones I was spooked and frightened by, the THX start up and the Dolby digital start up for dvds, specifically the BBC Walking with Dinosaurs dvd. That scared me witless as a kid. Keep up the good work!

Haha it’s funny, the VCI logo didn’t creep me, but mainly because I used to harmonise with its dumb droning sound. BBC Video on the other hand, chills.

I’m 16, and I’ve got to admit, I saw the BBC logo on all my mums old video tapes (most of which we still have) and I quite liked it and still do. Same with the VCI one. This morning was the first ever time I saw the piracy advert. Holy shit, it’s terrifying. Mum loves horror, so she’d probably like it.
