I never stopped collecting. A lot of things are only available on VHS, things recorded off TV especially. Tape trading has been around for decades, and a lot of the uploaded shows you see here on KZbin are uploaded by collectors like I. :)

Also things like ads in a paid service, reducing the quality of the show because you're on an "unsupported platform" (like a browser in Linux instead of their spyware apps), and forcing arbitration when a customer dies in one of their theme parks, because the customer signed up for a streaming service and arbitration was in the TOS.

I've always hated streaming. I had a bunch of VHS tapes that I ended up donating back to a Goodwill and then I left my VCR at my sisters when I moved out of state. Last year I bought an old portable Sony DVD player and I'm reviving my whole DVD collection. But I'm thinking about rebuilding VHS also. See, I got smart with all these movie apps,. I downloaded all the movies into a separate hard drive now all I have to do is plug it in to my computer and watch them. Which means no issues with streaming and no fees.

I also got rid of all my Laserdisc movies and beta/vhs movies collection and players a few years back and also my cassettes and vinyl collection from the 80's and posters.. A guy came and took it all...I sold it for pennies to be quite honest..practically gave it all away. Took up a lot of space in my apt and also had to pay storage fees. I just got tired of it all. I have no regrets i have my fond memories...that's enough for me.

This is incredibly stupid. Collecting VHS is incredibly stupid. Thrift stores don't watch every movie all the way through. Many have crinkled/wrinkled magnetic tape in the cassettes. Old VHS tapes are hard on the equipment heads. You can't see it, but the magnetic particles flake off on the heads.
