This is the song that made us aware of him in 1967. As a 16 year old the first time I heard it I was astounded because I had never heard a voice that big yet so crystal clear before. And he still sounds darn good past 80 years of age!!

Actually, this wonderful song is much older than 1989...It was written and first released back in 1947, sung by many a great artist but it was this version recorded by Engelbert in 1967 that turned it into the world mega hit it is and deserves to be...This is playback in a performance for German TV in 1989 when the song was already over 42 years old, and it's still going strong just a few days after Engelbert Humperdinck's 85th birthday!...Needless to say I never, ever tire of listening to it!...

Obrigado

This is why Engelbert hated being called a "crooner". At 50 years old he was hitting notes a crooner couldn't even hear... Amazing.
@2olvets4435 жыл бұрын
He hated it because he didn't want to be put in the same catagory as them. Some of those "crooners" (one in particular comes to mind) could "NEVER" hold a note on key.

This song was popular in the late 60s I think. I felt like I so wanted to leave the man I was married to. Not cause I was in love with him or anyone. I was alcoholic alcoholic and being beaten and controlled. To the point I could not leave. Bondage. He passed in 1972. It is 2024 iv been sober since 1977. I'm so grateful for my life with God today

Just fantastic, this was one of many looks Enge had over the years. He liked to surprise his fans, so added or changed something every year. That voice, thank God, never changed, other than to get more mature as Engelbert grew older. Still performing, and his shows are the best, and it will soon be 50 years since Release Me in 1967!
