These endurance style rallies are what WRC misses the most these days. Far better exposure for manufacturers and spectators. WRC should bring back a few week long rallies

@dontmakemecomesoft461 they were a great way to start the week... Sat scrutineering, Sun, a couple of stately homes and dodgy burgers and then in the evening to the forest car park for the rest of the week. Happy days!

@dontmakemecomesoft461 I live in Chester, so have early memories of the rally build up and when get the first car with my mates, we all trundled off all over the country for a week. It was such good fun. But these stages were good, and kind of built you up to messing about in forests for a week. It was so popular back then and these Sunday stages were great for non hardcore followers but the action was good, good views most of the time and good memories of them. While prefer the forests this was just part of it. I actually think the cars now are even better than back then and as spectacular as Group B. I think the new cars are great just the events as a whole have lost something (in the UK everything when it became just South Wales). I now go to Sweden every year which is great.

The royal days of rallying..Timo Makinen was mentioned, as such as many other succesful drivers in the history of RAC..as a Finn these clips represent the golden days of rallying. Thank You!

that top 10 though. Juha 4x champ, Carlos, 2x champ, Miki, 2x Champ, Colin, 1x Champ, Tommi, 4x champ and manufacturer champ, Alen 19 wins, Auriol 1x champ, Wilson 4 x manufacturer champ, Kenneth, 3 x wins, Vatanen 1x champ. Unbelievably high quality field....

Without doubt, this was a golden era of rallying. Frankly, those Lancia Deltas in Martini livery were the closest thing to perfection that a car could get. In the hands of the masterful Kanks and that complete loony Allen (meant as a compliment), they were awesome. Chatsworth, as the best of the Micky Mouse stages, had the geographic benefit of being on the doorstep of Manc, Sheff, Leeds, Derby etc, so holds a fond place in the hearts of many northern rally fans! It's been away too long, methinks, even though I love the Welsh forests and my annual 'winter holiday' to Snowdonia etc

I hear ya. A certain pathos is felt because our beautiful country is being slowly erased. From the flag to the family, every aspect is under some form of insidious attack by so-called culture warriors.

Little did many know at the time, that as well as Colin McRae, many were seeing a future 'GOAT' in Tommi Makinen for the first time.

Was at Donnington that day, horrendous weather, we had planned of following the rally into Monday but everything was soaked through. We were outside the old hairpin where Makinnen dropped the Nissan.

At 8:24, I decided to google Adrian Boyd as I had not heard of him before. Going by what Tony Mason said, he would have been roughly 80 this year. Sadly, I see he passed away only in October of 2021. May he rest in peace.

And to think this is no longer an event.how on earth could the FIA get it so wrong?,what were they thinking by moving the whole event to Wales a few years later alienating thousand's of rally fans.all these stage's have been silent for many yrs now and sadly will always remain silent.the sport now isn't a patch on what it was,the Sunday specials drew the crowds in for miles around and yet the FIA thought different and wonder why there's now a decline in rallying!.

Curious as to how it ran with full logos and branding when the Marlboro and Rothmans signage on the Toyotas and works Subarus, respectively, was censored...
@retardray57013 жыл бұрын
@@tomanderson6335 My guess is that they claimed it was for the fashion brand which back then had the exact same logo. Subarus also had 555 logos on display in Finland and Sweden for some years, probably because the brand wasn't sold there.

Pathetic organisation for that first watersplash, far too much water, caused so many retirements, we had a pop at the Aussies in 96l, but this was just as bad.
