remeber this been open in 1985 and watching Rocky 4 and Back 2 the future - and got to work there in 1995. place is all borded up and closed, there was talks about pulling it down or upgrading it but as I write this it's just sitting there rusting away :( good memories back then and when Milton Keynes was cool.

I saw countless movies there from 1987 (starting with Mannequin) to 2015 and kept going after the more popular Xscape was built (that said, I can't say that I don't appreciate Xscape). Lot of good memories there and I learned to be my own man in that building. It's sad how something with such rich history could ultimately degenerate into a dilapidated rusted shell that's not even a shadow of it's former self. Already sad upon getting word of it's closing, when I heard it was closing for good in February 2015, I wasted no time to catch the last movies of it and the memories came flooding back. It was surreal. I spoke to loads of people who were also sad it was going including a couple who had their first date there in the late 80's in their teens and ultimately got married. It may have been superseded by more state of the art establishments in entertainment but for us, that was the place man. And we will never forget it.

Remember it more or less as easyCinema and ODEON. I'll never forget the days. It was one of my favourite establishments growing up visiting there. It makes me cry!

It's always interesting watching people from the past talking about the future.

Can't have a relic from a more optimistic and fun age left lying around.

Was simply a brilliant place to go for all age groups. None of the new places ever had the same impact

From then to now! The point has been left to rot where it stands, it’s now nothing but an eyesore. Needs to be renovated to its former glory. I remember seeing the point from miles around at night. So sad seeing it now.

The Point was the start of a revolution that kick started the massive expansion of multiplex cinemas in the UK. Now post Covid and streaming platforms established its likely most cinemas will start to close.

anyone know what the 2nd and 3rd floor was used for?
@0utLander7 жыл бұрын
The second floor was a nightclub, with the third not actually being a floor, it was just the high ceiling of the second floor.

I used to work here from autumn '90 to early '94. Not that that's of any interest to anyone honestly, but you never know. Good memories now but at the time I hated most of it.

@S P Newton I think there might have been 1 in the stairwell between the point and the cinema section.

@S P Newton I can't remember exactly, I worked in the bar and restaurant area. I know it varied between weekdays and weekends. Saturdays it was open from about 12pm and closed pretty late. Maybe around midnight. In the week I think it opened around 3pm. Something like that.
@norepetitivebeats3 жыл бұрын
@S P Newton As you walked through the front entrance you had the Croc Bar on a raised area to the left and the Brasserie Bar on the right, with the restaurant area directly to the right and at the front of the building. The restaurant area also was a raised area. There was also another raised area in front of the Brasserie Bar where bands and DJ performed from. These raised areas were about 2 foot higher than the general floor level. There was a walkway going straight through the middle between the Croc Bar and the Brasserie Bar which lead to the cinema. There was an arcade on the right just after the bar area and just before you went down the stairs to the cinema. Upstairs was only the nightclub
@norepetitivebeats3 жыл бұрын
@S P Newton There was a separate flight of stairs that went up to the club. But the cinema section was also much lower than the main point where the bars and restaurant were so you had to go down a large set of stairs to get to it. So basically if you were in the cinema you had to go up the large flight of stairs which would take you to the bar area

now the point has just been let to rot by the council. they need to clean it up and get the lights back on it.

agree...LEDs are quite cheap now, so no excuses
@drtydawg737 жыл бұрын
the council do this sort of thing on purpose, they have loads of money so its not cost of repairs that's the problem. I think its more the lack of cost, they like to spend loads more than needed, so they get their full allowance from the government next year. this is why they were recently saying they were going to tear down the point and build something else there, I think they mentioned another cinema? anyway, what ever it was, it would just be a huge waste of money and probably some great big eyesore. just to destroy a huge landmark and icon of Milton Keynes. our council need to be halted from spending another penny till they are investigated. in my opinion.

As I write this we are now into 2019 the point still stands but nothing is happening with it - it's now looking outdated and old. I think there is something in the works for something to be done with it but when and how I don't know?

They keep saying they will but they never seem to get round to it. Would much rather see it restored to it's former glory though.
