ORTAEOLTRE.IT : Il Sacro Monte di San Francesco, meglio noto come Sacro Monte di Orta, sorge in posizione panoramica sul Lago d'Orta, Piemonte. Sito UNESCO dal 2003, è uno dei luoghi più preziosi e panoramici della regione!
A farvi oggi da Guida al sito, per una breve introduzione generale, ci sono io, Cosetta Dal Cin, storica dell'arte e Guida Turistica professionista: da tempo desideravo raccontare, per chi non lo avesse ancora mai visto, il complesso barocco eretto oltre quattro secoli fa per narrarci le meraviglie della vita di Francesco d'Assisi. Le piccole cappelle, abbellite da centinaia di statue policrome in terracotta e magnifici affreschi, sono immerse in un bosco meraviglioso e dominano dall'alto l'incantevole borgo di Orta San Giulio, il lago e la sua Isola. The Sacro Monte of St. Francesco (UNESCO 2003), better known as the "Sacro Monte di Orta", is one of the highlights on Lake Orta, Piemonte, Northern Italy. Mainly erected in the 17th century, its twenty chapels are beautifully decorated with hundreds of polychrome terracotta statues and fresco paintings. From the top of the "Monte" you'll enjoy a stunning view over the lake and its picturesque island of San Giulio.
